Nancy Levinson, 15, a ninth grade student of 21 Windsor Drive, Dallas, received the School Spirit Award, a $50 Savings Bond, spon- sored by Dallas H.S. Faculty. She is the daughter of Howard and Susan Levinson, and has a brother Jeffrey. Her extra-curricular school activities include volleyball, bas- ketball, secretary of the freshman class. He is also a Hebrew School teacher and does extensive babysitting. Her personal inter- ests are basketball, basketball, basketball. Lehman students place in Newton Math Competition The Lake-Lehman team of Ken Weaver, Angela Davis, Corey Makarewicz and Sean Manzoni finished in fifth place at the 11th annual Newton Math Competi- tion held recently at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman. More than 100 students from 12 area high schools partici- pated in the all-day event. In the morning session, students com- peted on an individual basis. The afternoon had teams of four stu- dents working collectively to solve ‘six problems. Awards went to the top three teams and the top five individuals. Kenneth Weaver finished in eighth place as an individual. The Newton Math Competition was founded in 1988 by Dr. M. Nouri, professor of mathematics at the campus, to create incentive in the subject matter for students. It was named after Sir Isaac New- ton, who was a mathematician and physicist and the inventor of ‘calculus. John Graham, Penn State mathematics instructor, coordinates the competition.
