Call 587-1148 to Advertise Wilkes Conservatory adds programs Wilkes University is strength- ening its commitment to commu- nity arts programs through the recent appointments of Nina Davidowitz, Director of Wilkes University’s Encore Music Camp, and Shelley Pearce, Director of the Wilkes Community Conserva- tory (WCC). Davidowitz, a native of Kingston, was promoted to direc- tor of Encore Music Camp, a na- tionally acclaimed summer arts camp for students ages 13 to 18. She previously served for two years as director of the WCC, a non- profit community music school at Wilkes. With Encore, Davidowitz is de- veloping a new four-week visual arts program and a two-week cre- ative writing program to comple- ment the pre-existing music, the- atre, and dance curriculum. The traditional summer performing arts schedule, which includes classical music, jazz, ballet, dance and theatre productions, will be complemented with art shows and chamber music teas. As WCC director, Pearce is plan- ning events to help provide qual- ity music instruction in orches- tral instruments, as well as pi- ano, guitar, and voice lessons to community members ages 18 months to adult. Public recitals are held regularly by faculty, students and guest artists. The first events for 1999 will take place on Saturday, Jan. 9.
