2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, December 2, 1998 Swetland Homestead to host Christmas open house Dec. 6 “The Wyoming Historical and Geological Society is hosting its annual Christmas open house at the Swetland Homestead, 885 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming on Sun- day, Dec. 6 from 1-5 p.m. Admis- sion to the open house is $4 for adults, $2 for children. A family of four or more can be admitted for $10. :From 1-2 p.m. theWyoming Valley High School Singers will entertain the visitors with memo- rable Christmas carols. Two ses- sions of a family story time will take place from 2-2:40 p.m. and from 3-3:40 p.m. During these sessions Mary Baker will lead the group in sing-alongs a well as tell timeless Tales of Winter. Between 3:30 and 5 p.m., visitors will be entertained by a sibling trio. Ian, Ben and Lucy Warrington will delight the crowd with 18 and 19 century music on the cello and violin. : For those interested in crafts, Carol and Bill Kelly will be dem- onstrating homemade candle-dip- ping in the kitchen. Also, mem- bers of the 81st PVI reenacting group will be on hand in Victorian dress. The ground floor of the homestead will be open and deco- rated with guides in the rooms to answer questions. Refreshments will be served. Nighttime candlelight tours will also be given at the Swetland Homestead Tuesday through Fri- day, Dec. 8-11, from 6-9 p.m. These tours are by reservation only. Barre, he was the son of the late Bert and Lillian Doe Griffiths: ., He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Phillipines. In 1978, after 30 years of service, he retired from, the-, Wilkes-Barre city Police Force. He was also employed by Acme as’a store manager. He was past commander of American Legion Post 132 and treasurer of the Home Associa: tion for Post 132. He was a member of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church, cor- ner of South Meade and East Northampton Streets. He and his wife, Harriet Ponting. Griffiths celebrated their 57th . wedding anniversary on June 9.
