Sr. Neely said singing soothes the soul. Neely has been in the ' group for. 16 years and does not mind when the other women play- fully joke that she is their spiri- tual leader. Neely shared a little known fact with the group. The Macarena dance can to done to Deck The Halls. Try it. The singers have also sung at Radio City Music Hall and the Kirby Performing Arts Center. Many of the singers have been in the group more than 10 years and say it's more than the singing that brings them back year after yeat. It's obvious the singers are a close-knit group who take in the ‘new members as family. “This is my support group.” said Louella Priutzman.. a nurse ' from Shavertown. “They have helped me through the death of a hus- band and the near death ofa son.” Annette Russett of Larksville has been singing in the group for 14 years. “This group is absolute therapy. I get my jolt from them,” she explained. Kay Sigmund of Shavertown likes to sing, but also enjoys hang- ing out with her pals. “We have alway been supportive of each othér. There have been deaths and illnesses. They are a great group of women,” she said. On fhe. singers’ last night of rehearsal Sigmund shared happy news with her friends. She showed everyone a picture of her brand new graiidson. Sharon Bartolini, the accom- panist and director, joked that she comes back every year to see these cute little faces. And, as director, “to keep them in order when they stray,”she said, with a laugh. Laughing is key to beinga Com- munity Singer. Although they “I likce to sing in the nursing homes because it brightens the people’s days.” Doris Kitchen Community Singer, Dallas share some difficult times, they know how to enjoy each other.
