Banos, 50, of Buck- wheat Hollow, died Oct. 29, 1998, at Community Medical Center, Scranton, due to traumatic inju- ries received in a motorcycle acci- dent. Born May 11, 1948, in Reno, Nev., he was a son of Anna Hennessey Banos, Douglassville and the late Joseph Banos. He graduated ‘from the Boyertown school system and moved to the Noxen area more than 20 years ago. He worked as a truck driver and later as welder-boiler maker. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Beaumont and was assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 693, Harveys Lake. In addition to his mother, are his wife, the former Joanna Kid, of Saylorsburg; sons, Michael Banos, Pottstown; Kevin Banos and Michael John Banos, both of Tunkhannock; stepson, Robert Brown, Saylorsburg; daughters, Christine Dami, Pottstown; Mel- issa Banos, Tunkhannock; Sheyanne Banos and Myranda Banos, Saylorsburg; four grndchildren; brothers, John Banos, William Banos, David Banos, and Richard Banos, all of Douglassville; Steven Banos, Lawrenceville; sisters, Helen Hawley, FL; Marianne Huntsinger, Pottstown; Jane Bailey, Pitts- burgh; nieces and nephews. Interment, Chapel Lawn Me- morial Park, Dallas. HAROLD BERTRAM Harold T. Bertram, 91, of Jack- son Road, Lehman Twp., died Nov. 1, 1998, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Jackson Township, he was the son of the late Theodore and Eleanor “Nellie” Major Bertram. He attended Lehman Township schools and resided in Chase, Jackson Township for many years. Before retiring, he was. self- employed as a dairy farmer. - He was a member of Huntsville United Methodist Church. He served as Jackson Town- ship supervisor for many years, and was a founding member of the Jackson Township Volunteer ~ Fire Company. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Slimak and Grace Gabel. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, the former Dorothy Hadsall; daughters, Bette Sovik, Clifton Park, NY; Janice Lopasky, Leh- man Township, with whom he resided; brother, Russell, Jack- son Township; three grandchil- dren; and one great-grandchild. ANNA HIGGINS Anna Theresa Higgins, 73, of Chase section of Jackson Town- ship, died Oct. 28, 1998, at her home. Born Oct.13, 1925 in Liberty, NY, she was a daughter of the late John and Stella Krouse Sudosky. She was raised in Exeter and attended Exeter schools. She lived in Chase for the last 44 years. She was employed by ENCON, Dallas for 15 years until retiring 13 years ago. She was also em- ployed by several area nursing homes. : She was a’ member of the Ruggles United Methodist Church, Lake Township and the Luzerne County Democratic Club; the La- dies Auxiliary of the Noxen Fire Co. : She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Jonathan Higgins, daughter, Mina Estelle Higgins and brother, Charles Sudosky. ALICE BUTKIEWICZ Alice B. Butkiewicz, 74, of Dal- las died Oct. 26, 1998 at Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. Born Aug. 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Willard E. and Beatrice Pero John. She was a 1942 graduate of Kingston High School and had attended Bucknell Junior College. She had been a secretary and office clerk for the Luzerne Lum- ber Co. in Luzerne. She was a member of the Dal- las United Methodist Church, Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester P. Butkiewicz. ROBERT D. CLEMENTS Robert D. Clements, DDS, 76, of Lehman, died Oct. 29, 1998 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following an illness. Dr. Clements was born April 8, 1922, in Wilkes-Barre and raised in Rochester, MN. He was the son of the late Dillon F. and Linnie B. Hersberger Clements. Dr. Clements was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, attended Susquehanna University and fin- ished his pre-dental education at Ohio University. He received his DDS degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Den- tistry in Cleveland, OH. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He retired from the military with the rank of Captain. He was in private dental prac- tice in Wilkes-Barre from 1952 until his retirement in 1988. He was a staff member of Mercy Hospital, served as president of the Luzerne County Dental Soci- ety in 1958, was a former member of the Wilkes-Barre Jaycees, the Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club and the Westmoreland Club. He is survived by his wife of 52 yeaars, the former Mary Jane Burke; daughters, Mrs. Joseph E. (Molly) Shaughnessy, Lehman; Mrs. Bruce E. (Betsy) Gover, Leh- man; and son, Robert D. Clements Jr., DDS, Kingston Township; brothers, Francis B. and John, both of Dallas, TX; and grandchil- dren, Bruce Jr., R. Clements and Mary Jane Gover, and Jane, Eliza- beth, Julia and Catherine Clements. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. DONALD COPE Donald. E. Cope. >74, of Trucksville section of Kingston Township, died Oct. 27, 1998 at the Department of Veterans Af- fairs Medical Center, Wilkes- Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre , he was the son of the late Ami P. and Ethel Davis Cope. He lived most of his life in Trucksvilleand was a 1944 gradu- ate of Wyoming Seminary, Kingston. He served 28 years with the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1974 as a staff sergeant. He was a member of the Trucksville United Methodist Church, Kingston Township. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Grenman. There are no survivors.
