Fritsch, whose wife, Christineis the daugh- ter of Thomas and Carol Yezilski of Dallas, recently visited Austra- lia while onboard the guided mis- sile cruiser USS Mobile Bay, based in Yokosuka, Japan. After completing a multina- tional exercise in the Western Pacific Ocean, Fritsch'’s ship tran- sited to Townsville, Australia. Fritsch's ship is one of the most powerful warships ever put to sea. The computer-based AEGIS weap- ons system is the heart of the ship’s war-fighting capability. It centers around a powerful radar that enbables the crew to detect, track and fire on more than 100 targets at a time. The: 1987 graduate of Parsippany High School of Parsippany, NJ, joined the Navy in May 1993. Fritsch is a 1993 graduate of U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, with a BS degree. Air Force Airman Michael T. Smith has arrived for duty at Minot Air Force Base, Minot, N.D. Smith is an aerospace ground ‘equipment apprentice assigned to the 5th Maintenance Squadron. The airman is the son of Jean L. Shaffer of Shavertown, and Tho- mas W. Smith of Wilkes-Barre. He is a 1997 graduate of Lake- Lehman High School, Lehman. | Library news - Nancy Kozemchak The Back Mountain Memorial Library has completed some ma- jor additions and repairs to the library in the past few years. It has been 13 years since the li- brary purchased the building on Huntsville Road and conducted a major campaign for the neceesary funds to convert the building to the library. The Children’s Wing was a major achievement and the community room was a welcome addition. The large trees in the front of the building were becom- ing old and worrisome, so they were cut down this spring. The flower areas in the entrance of the building were enhanced with a new group of plants and flowers. This past week, the main building was given a fresh new look. Scott, son of Ida L. Scott of Lehman, recently reported for duty at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA. Scott's rotation to a new duty station exemplifies the worldwide - assignability of Marines and Sail- ors. This flexibility allows our naval forces to protect U.S. na- tional interests by serving as the principal enforcers of peacetime engagement, deterrence and cri- sis response around the world. The 1993 graduate of Lake- Lehman High School, Lehman, joined the Navy in August 1993. Army Spec. Leonard P. Azarauich has graduated from the Mountain Leader Close Com- bat Certificate Course (MLCCCC) at Fort Drum, Watertown, NY. The week-long course is a hands-on, train the trainer pro- gram designed to produce highly trained and proficient infantry squad leaders, platoon leaders and platoon sergeants assigned to small units. The graduate was instructed at the Military Operations in Urban Terrain site and participated in numerous exercises, which con- cluded with a realistic, real-life type exercise. Azarauich is the son of Theresa and Robert Azarauich, Harveys Lake. He is a 1993 graduate of Lake- Lehman High School, Lehman. Army Pvt. Michael Huntzinger has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. During the eight weeks of train- ing, the soldier will study the Army mission and will receive instruc- tion in drill and ceremonies, mili- . tary justice, first aid, Army his- tory and traditions, and special training in human relations. Huntzinger is the son of Donna M. and Michael Huntzinger, Dal- las. He is a 1998 graduatre of West Side Area Vocational Technical High School, Pringle. Air Force Airman Meighan L. McAnney has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. During the six weeks of train- ing, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who com- plete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. McAnney is the daughter of Mary A. Wallace of Wilkes-Barre and Michael R. McAnney of Shav- ertown. She is a 1997 graduate of Hanover Area Junior and Senior High School, Hanover Township. Hopefully, the building will be able to withstand another 10 years without a major repair or construction. The second brick campaign is on-going with many new people signing up for bricks. The book con- tains 72 full-color photographs with selections from the works of Henry David Thoreau in a stun- ning celeration of the timeless beauty of the New England coun- tryside. We experience the New England landscape Thoreau saw and loved more than 100 years ago. These two men traveled a century apart: the photos add a new dimension to Thoreau’s work. There is always something new to discover in Thoreau, so too, in Porter's photographs.
