Wrestling club registration Sept. 21, 24 The Back Mountain Wrestling Club will be holding registrations for the 1998-99 season on Mon., Sept. 21, at Lake-Lehman High School from 6-8:30 p.m. and on Thurs., Sept. 24 at Dallas Middle School from 6-8:30 p.m. Children from 6-12 years of age (K-6th grades) are invited to register and must present a birth certificate. Soccer Club craft show Oct. 4 The Dallas High School Boys Soccer Club is sponsoring the annual Fall Craft Show on Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Dallas Senior High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 vendors from Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be represented, selling various crafts including semi- precious gemstone jewelry, needlework, candles, ceramics, potpourri, quilts, stenciled lamp shades, woodcrafts, wreathes, hand-made dolls and homemade candy. Soccer Club members will be selling lunch and baked goods throughout the day. There is no admission charge. Lady Wings seek hockey players The Wilkes-Barre Lady Wings ice hockey team is seeking additional players. The team has practice every Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Ice Box Rink near WVIA-TV in Pittston. Beginning in October, the team will play in the“All-Girls Division of the Delaware Valley League”. Girls 9 to 19 are welcome to attend practice or call 474-5773 for information. Boating course in Dallas Oct. 18 PA Fish and Boat Commission basic boating course will be held at the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Northeast Regional Office, Rt. 415 in Dallas, Sun., Oct. 18, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Lunch will not be provided. A lunch break will be given around noon time and those attending should bring a box lunch and refreshments. Registration is required for the course. Seating is limited. Aquatic Ass’n to meet Sept. 21 The Dallas Aquatic Association will hold its monthly meeting Mon- day, Sept. 21, 7 p.m. at the Mark II Restaurant in Dallas. JUNIOR FOOTBALL Raiders A shuts out Edwardsville The Kingston Township Raiders A Team rebounded from their loss last week to Plymouth with a 14-0 win over the Edwardsville Eagles. The A-Team is now 2-1 on the season. The Raiders defense was the story of the game, holding the Eagles offense to no first downs the entire game. Leading the way on the stingy defense was Kevin Elston, Stephen Salavantis, Doug Zaruta, Dan Smith, Pat Harmon, Mike Burns and Chris Higdon. The Raiders offense racked up a lot of yardage but committed several turnovers and penalties that kept them out of the end zone through the first three quarters. Then, early in the fourth period, QB Ken Regan scampered around the right end and went 23 yards for the,game’s first score. Salavantis added the two point conversion with an off tackle run. The offense behind the powerful running of fullback Billy Youells and the up-front blocking of William Siglin, Jonathan Taylor, Ben Nulton and Jonathan Miller marched the ball down the field in the closing minutes of the contest. Regan scored his second TD of the day with a nifty 18 yard run to cap the game’s scoring. B team downs Eagles for third road win | The Kingston Raiders B Team won their third game on the road beating the Edwardsville Eagles 34-0, Sunday afternoon. The defense was led by Kevin Roman, who registered a interception, one fumble recovery and one sack. The Eagles were overpowered early as the Raiders jumped out to a 22-0 half time lead. The hard running of fullback Brian Ostrowsky resulted in 14 pts. Kevin Roman added 12 and Derrick Elston, added eight more. The line play of the Raiders was outstanding with Dave Judge, Curt Montz, Andy Hiller, Jake Kovalchick and Tom Perrego bulldozing their way through the Eagle defense. The Raiders play their home opener Sunday in Dallas with the game starting at 1 p.m. SPORTS ROUNDUP FOOTBALL Dallas 41, Crestwood 0 : Junior Matt Jackson led Dal- las’ offense with three touchdowns and added another from the de- fense when he picked off a Comet: pass and took it in from 23-yards out for a touchdown as Dallas manhandled Crestwood 41-0 Sept. 12. Jeff Parrish went in from three-yards out for a Mountain- eer score in the fourth quarter and Cory Gallant ended the on- slaught on a nine-yard run later in the quarter. Jackson ended the day with 21 carries for 79 yards while Matt Acri got the call 10 times for 73 yards. The Dallas defense was dominant the entire afternoon allowing Crestwood just 12 yards on the ground and 140 total yards. Dallas will prepare this week for a road trip to Hanover this Saturday at 1 p.m. SOCCER Lehman 4, Valley West 1 Lehman jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to two goals by Tom Brislin and another by Mike Kostrobala to give the Knights the advantage they needed to knock off Valley West 4-1 Sept. 10. An- drew Verdekal accounted for the Knights final tally late in the sec- ond half. Keeper Russ Mosier de- nied four. FIELD HOCKEY Crestwood 2, Dallas 0 Conference standout Carissa Messimer landed a goal and an assist in Crestwood’s 2-0 shutout of Dallas Sept. 10. Mount keeper Melanie Sappe anchored the de- fense with six saves. ; Lehman 3, Wyo. Sem. 1 Despite trailing 1-O early on, Lehman rattled off three unan- swered goals of their own to down Seminary 3-1 Sept. 12. Julia Chiampi’s goal at 4:46 in the first gave the Blue Knights the early advantage before Melissa DeCesaris and Alyson Bevan nailed back to back tallies later in the half.
