The Dallas Post Sports Too little, too late The Dallas Mountaineers suffered an opening day 19-14 defeat at the hands of West Scranton Friday night, in a game played at Memorial Stadium in Scranton. After allowing a touchdown early in the game, the Dallas defense stiffened and kept the Invaders out of the end zone until after the Mounts had evened the score in the third quarter. But a blocked punt that turned into a score put West Scranton on top to stay. The Mountaineers outran and outpassed the Invaders, but fumble seven times, turning the ball over three times. In right photo, Kevin Yurko followed Frank Perkoski through a hole in the Invaders’ line. Yurko carried five times for 17 yards. He was also 1-for1 passing, for 14 yards. Kapson in the sec- ond to put Lehman up 14-0 at the half. In the third Rich Patton and Travis McRoy found daylight as each broke through from the 5- yard line. D.J. Harris denied Dela- ware an opportunity in the fourth after intercepting a pass and reel- ing off 27-yards for.another tally before Matt Morris capped the scoring with a 60-yard punt re- turn. Lehman quarterback D.J. Kapson ended the day completing 7 of 14 passes for 186 yards. GOLF Lehman 166, Nanticoke 174 Dom Castrignano copped med- alist honors at home course Huntsville Sept. 3, shooting a one- over par 37 to lead the Knights to a 166-174 victory over Nanticoke. Chad Sorber followed up with a 41 while Gary Sagan shot a 44. Lehman 172, O'Reilly 192 Dom Castrignano and Gary Sagan shared medalist honors Sept. 4 as both shot 38s in Lehman’s 172-192 win over Bishop O'Reilly. Matt Loftus took the spotlight firing a hole in one and ending the day with a 48. VOLLEYBALL Lehman 2, Meyers 0 The Lady Knights dominated the court dropping Meyers 15-0, 15-1 Sept. 4 athome. Faith O'Dell and Lauren Wasser patrolled the net, pounding out six and five kills apiece respectively. Wasser also showed her ability at the line with 10 service points while Michele Alters sliced three aces and four service points. Dallas 2, O'Reilly 0 Dallas made it look easy in a 15-1, 15-3 romp over O'Reilly Sept. 4. Tara Holly took to the net for six kills while Jacey Peterson dis- played her full range of ability with three blocks, three kills and four aces. Beth Carey was the go- to with 11 assists. FIELD HOCKEY Lehman 9, GAR 0 Lehman roared out to a 8-0 lead at the half and held on to stun GAR 9-0 Sept. 5. Janelle Perlis accounted for four of the Lady Knights goal while Leigh Isaac dumped two. Lindsey Bo- nis, Jenn Johnstone and Katie Britt rounded out the scoring. JUNIOR FOOTBALL Raiders blank Plymouth 14-0 The Kingston Township Raiders won their second game in a row with a hard fought battle beating the Shawnee Indians 14-0 in Plymouth on Sunday afternoon. Offense was the key to the Raider win with Elijah Miller leading the punishing ground attack. Matt Kelly connected with Steve Wengen on a beautiful 25 yard pass with Wengen. Miller scored the Raiders second TD on a two yard plunge in the second quarter, with another Kelly to Wengen connection for the two point conversion. The defensive charge was led by Jaimie Trocki and Andrew Hiller. Both recorded timely sacks that stalled Indian drives. Jake Kovalchick and Curt Montz also came through for the Raiders playing hard on both sides of the ball. The Raiders play away next Sunday in Edwardsville, with the game starting at 1 p.m. Raiders C-team 24, Plymouth Indians ( The Raiders C-Team traveled to Plymouth on Sunday and shutout the Shawnee Indians 24-0. The Raiders defense, led by the line play of Zack Hilstolsky, Devon McMahon, Matt Hilstolsky and David Hilstolsky shut down the Indians on their first possession. The Raiders offense took over and got off to a quick start with Brian Kerpovich scoring on a 65 yard reverse on the third play David Henry snuck in the conversion for an 8-0 lead. : After the Raiders defense shut down the Indians again, using the outstanding play of linebackers Anthony Oliveri, Josh Backes and Dylon Elston, David Henry scored on a 50-yard run off a broken play. Eric Tucker took in the conversion for a 16-0 lead. In the third quarter, Tucker scored on a 30 yard run up the middle and took in the conversion to close out the scoring. The Raiders defense held the Indians to one first down on the day. Hockey opens with 4-1 win Dallas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over Abington Heights in the opening game of the field hockey season Friday, before giving up a goal to the Comets.
