After cocktails and dinner in the Club House everyone moved to the outdoor pavilion for the grand entrance. Potentate Gerald W. Hoover and his lady, Dorothy, received all out of town guests and all Past Potentates that were present. After that, the night was filled with music by ‘The Poets”. Benefit square dance to aid Paul Jobson and family A benefit square ‘dance will be held Fri., Aug. 14 at College Mise- ricordia, Dallas, from 8 p.m. to’ midnight to benefit Paul Jobson Jr. Jobson, 35, of Plains, is suf- fering from Amyotropic Lateral ‘Sclerosis (ALS) commonly called “Lou Gehrig's Disease”. ALS attacks the nerves in the “spinal cord and brain that control muscle movement. It causes pro- gressive paralysis. The disease can progress rapidly or it can slowly deteriorate the muscles over a very long time. | Unfortunately, there is no known cure. Jobson, who is employed at Topps Chewing Guin, Inc. in Duryea, and his wife, Sharon, have a two year old daughter, Katie. All . proceeds from the square dance avill be given to the family. Luzerne County Commissioner “Red” Jones and Wilkes-Barre ‘resident, Joe McKeown, will do ‘the calling. Both are veteran ~square dance callers and will teach .dancers everything they need to know to have a good time. “Obviously money will not be ~ able to stop the disease, but it will help Paul and his family make plans, reduce medical expenses or support any other priorities they deem appropriate,” said Jones, a friend of the Jobson fam- ily for close to 20 years. * Jobson, formerly from the Back Mountain, remains positive and is working hard to fight the ill- ness. He is still working and un- der doctor's care. “To help Paul and his family, we would like to ask you for your prayers and a financial contribu- tion. Tickets are only $15 per person and we're sure all will have a great time,” said Jones. Refreshments will be available and a bake sale will be held. DISTRICT COURT BRIEFS ; DRUG POSSESSION CHARGED Harveys Lake resident Jenni- fer Elliot, 19, was arrested June 11 by Harveys Lake Borough pa- trolman James Karlowicz after police were called to Elliot's resi- dence for a possible drug over- dose. Elliot was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital where she was treated. Her parents told police, that she had been at Chris Santee’s house. Santee said Elliot was at his house after going on a .car ride with another friend. Dur- ing the ride, the two used heroin from which Elliot got sick, Santee said, according to police reports. During a search of Elliot's parent’s home, where she lives, _ police found a razor blade, a tour- niquet, a blue piece of wax paper with residue and three pieces of plastic with residue. Elliot is charged with posses- sion of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She waived her right to a preliminary hearing before District Justice James Tupper. ROBBERY Trucksville resident John W. Beacham, 20, was arrested May 23 by Dallas Borough patrolman William Norris after police re- sponded to a call from the Dallas Village Shopping Center for a theft. Larraine Leonard, a Rite-Aid cashier told police that a man came in and asked her for a dollar bill for four quarters. He told Leonard that she dropped a coin and when she bent down to find the coin he grabbed at the cash. Leonard said she grabbed his hands until he pulled away and ran out the door. Another em- ployee, Kenneth Gronski, told police he followed Beacham into New Goss Manor where he saw him get into a van. Out of a picture line-up Beacham was He was charged with robbery, simple as- sault, theft by unlawful taking, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit theft. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Justice James Tupper. ~ D.UL CHARGES Forty Fort resident Paul Segrave-Daly, 30, was arrested April 4 by Harveys Lake Borough patrolman James Karlowicz after police observed him driving er- ratically on Sunset Hill. After failing field sobriety tests, Segrave-Daly was taken to Wilkes- Barre General Hospital where his blood alcohol level was determined : to be .122. He was charged with driving under the influence of al- cohol and failing to keep right. Related charges of failure to drive at a safe speed, careless driving and reckless driving were dis- missed. SIMPLE ASSAULT Sweet Valley resident Emory Arthur Wolfe, 30, was arrested June 4 by State Trooper James L. Pugh after police responded to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival police learned that Wolfe struck Dana Reed Burkholder several times with an aluminum baseball bat. Wolfe was charged with simple assault. Related charges of aggravated assault and harass- ment were dismissed. DISORDERLY CONDUCT e Wilkes-Barre resident Tho- mas James McDonough Moore, 19, was arrested June 27 by Harveys Lake Borough patrolman James Karlowicz after police re- sponded to a domestic dispute in Hemlock Gardens. McDonough Moore was driving a van with Cerise Roberts and her 20-month* baby at a fast rate of speed and jumped out of the van while it was still moving. He was charged with recklessly ‘endangering another person, dis- orderly conduct, public drunken- ness and purchasing alcohol as a minor. Related charges of ha- rassment, theft, endangering the welfare of children and burglary were dismissed. ¢ Philadelphia resident Justin Wagner, 23, was arrested April 29 by Dallas Township patrolman Jeffrey Dennis after police re- sponded to a noise disturbance at Country Club Apartments. Wagner, who was a co-leaser of the apartment, had a party with his roommate Joseph Harvey. Police observed many under- age drinkers and Wagner told them that he paid for all the alco- hol present.
