Seniors plan day of retreat
The Back Mountain Senior Citi-
zens under Project Head, held
their monthly business meeting,
with Lillian Soveroski, president,
presiding.
«With regrets, the club an-
nounces the relocation of two
members, Margie O'Hara to
Hanover, Pa and Helen Matlawski
to Texas.
“Welcomed into the club were
Lorraine Hilstolski and Florence
Shemanski.
50/50 was won by Ann
Balavage and Lorraine Hilstolski.
. Genevieve Albosta served as
hostess at the July table. Decora-
tions were in keeping with the
July 4 holiday. Centerpiece was a
rocket featuring tiny American
flags. The honorees were Chet
Molley, Florence Dennis and Grace
Laux, who is a guest at the
Kingston Manor, Third Ave.,
Kingston.
August bakers are Florence
Dennis, Kay Hudak and Ann
Balavage. Co-hostessing the
birthday table are Helen Misson
and Florence Stella. August hon-
orees are Ethel Baltrushes, Clare
Paltrinieri, Marie and Ray
Yuknavage.
On Sept. 24, Project Head will
sponsor a day of retreat. Space is
limited, so reserve early by calling
Carol Strupcheskiat 655-0107 or
Mary Ann Daley at 822-7118. The
cost is $20 and includes trans-
portation, retreat, lunch, tips and
gratuities. The bus leaves Sears
at Wyoming Valley Mall, at 8 a.m.
returning at 4:30 p.m.
The club is still collecting Sure-
Fine labels and old glasses. First
and third Thursdays of each
month, members and friends are
welcome to assist Lillian Soveroski
in making sleeping bags for the
homeless, 11 a.m. to meeting time
at 1 p.m. Meetings are held in the
Father Sammons Hall of St.
Therese’s Church, Pioneer Ave.,
Shavertown.
BMT seniors win story contest
At the Project Head Advisory
Board Luncheon meeting held
recently at the Genetti Conven-
tion Center, Wilkles-Barre, awards
were given to those members en-
tering their “Nostalgia stories."
Among the 15 winners, there were
five members of the Back Moun-
tain Senior Citizens with club
president, Lillian Soveroski, be-
ing in first place. Other winners
_were Katherine Hudak, vice presi-
dent; Kaye Ray, publicity; Frances
Sirochman, and Irene Katyl. Mrs.
Soveroski’'s story was entitled
“Papa and the Weeds," a poignant
‘story of a loving father teaching
his children to rid themselves of
the weeds of life as well as those of

Country Club Pavilion at 7:45

: pleted her first year at Boston
niversity, where she is pursu-
lead vocalist for the Black
Affair Jazz Orchestra. In Feb

Katherine Hudak wrote of the
trials and joys of attending a one
room school house, to which the
students had to walk since trans-
portation was not provided. Kaye
Ray submitted a piece on her
father’s effort to feed victims of
the great depression, and the in-
teresting people who would arrive
at their door each day. A de-
ceased sister was the subject of
Frances Sirochman’s story, and
Irene Katyl rendered an account
of her father.
Contestants received a ribbon
and a gift. Peg Adamitz and Lillian
Soveroski also entered crafts for
the exhibit table.

Lions give $1,000 for library computers
The Dallas Lions Club donated $1,000 to the Back Mountain
Memorial Library to be used for improvements to the computer
system. Jack Williams, Dallas Lions president, seated, and Joe
Dwinchick made the donation to Martha Butler, library director.

Lois and Paul Hilbert, formerly of Kunkle, celebrated their 60th
Wedding Anniversary on Thurday, July 16. An informal party was

They have four children: Keith Hilbert, [Janice Jobes, Sheila
McCormack and Larry Hilbert, seven grandsons, three grand-

Knight Ed Raver, Jr., Council #8224 in Dallas attended on behalf of his.
council.
This was an organizational seminary held by the newly elected State
Deputy, Robert J. Cherenyack.
State Deputy Cherenyack is responsible for the interest of the
65,000 Brother Knights in 431 Councils within the 93 Districts of
Pennsylvania.
The new administration will guide the State Councils into the new
millennium. Their goal is to energize Columbianism through faith,
family, fraternity and service.
