Both women were largely respon- sible for the first library auction a project which was looked upon by the community in the light of a rummage sale until the returns from the auction were announced. Instead of the $1,000 which had ‘been the goal, figures shot well past the $3,000 mark and the Library Auction at once became a summer fixture of Back Moun- tain life. Miss Marion Lathrop now living in Sun City, Ariz. was the first librarian. 20 Years Ago - June 29, 1978 BURNDALE RECREATION CENTER A SUCCESS Dallas School Board directors adopted an annual budget for 1978/79 school year in total amount of $5,953,512 with a new tax millage of 90 mills and and new occupational privilege tax of $10. Also financing the budget are an earned income tax of 1% shared 50/50 with the municipal governments, a real estate trans- fer tax of 1% also shared equally with the municipalities and a per capita tax of $10 at the June 26 meeting in Dallas Jr. High School auditorium. Budget is $27,686 less than the prior prepared bud- get since the state subsidy was previously overstated by 780 stu- dents. The first week of the Rec Center located on Burndale Rd. was a great success. Approximately 450 children were present to enjoy the activities. Tennis courts are cur- rently being resurfaced.
