The Singer and bluesman will play Chicory House The Chicory House wraps up its ninth concert season with a split bill featuring acoustic bluesman Peter Keane and singer-songwriter Terri Allard on June 5 at 8 p.m. The non-profit, volunteer-run Chicory House presents a range of acoustic folk music from blues to bluegrass, Celtic to Cajun, jazz to swing. The coffeehouse-style concerts are held in the community room of St. Stephen’s Church, 35 South Franklin Street in Wilkes- Barre. The Chicory House is not affiliated with St. Stephen's. Rounder Records recording artist Peter Keane (pronounced Cane) garnered a fair share of accolades following his debut album The Goodnight Blues including rave reviews by The Boston Globe and The Washington Post: His latest release Walkin’ Around is a show- case for Keane's irresistible blend of back-porch soul and root- oriented country blues. ¢ Although he covers artists like Bob Dylan, Tim Hardin and Buddy Holly, Keane has an intense dedication to acoustic blues. Terri Allard accompanied by harmonica player Gary Green, plays a rootsy blend of folk and country-tinged pop in a style that straddles that of Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith. In fact, three former or current members of Carpenter's band back up Allard on her Rough Lines album. Allard has been nominated for three WAMMIES (Washington Area ' Music Association Awards) as Best Female Country Vocalist 1996 “and 1997 and as Best Country Recording 1996 for Rough Lines. Public admission will be $7 for Chicory House supporting members and $8 for non-members. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Desserts and beverages will be available for purchase.
