Rangers 15, Indians 1 Ryan Marascio smacked two hits and struck out nine in six innings of pitching to get the win. A’s 12, Tigers 11 Jason Bess struck out six in picking up the victory. Bess and Curt Montz each had two hits for the A’s. Adam King had two hits for the Tigers. Cardinals 9, Dodgers 2 The Cardinals scored ‘seven runs in the top of the sixth to break open the game. Shawn Leary struck out seven to get the victory. Dan Fuhr, (Mark Yankowski, and Matt Straub each had three hits for the Cardinals. Fuhr had two doubles and Yankowski had one. Kyle Filiczyk had an inside the park home run and Alex Kensgaard doubled for the Dodgers. Dodgers 8, Giants 5 The Dodgers rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to get the victory. Alex Kensgaard and Christian Cobleigh pitched well for the Dodgers. Kensgaard had two hits while Cobleigh and Matt Daube each doubled. Yankees 4, Indians 0 Frank Buzin pitched a two-hit- ter and collected nine strikeouts. Nate Yoh went 2-for-3 while Buzin and Jeff Pace each doubled for the Yankees. Indians pitchers Pat Harmon and Chris Roman com- bined to allow four hits collect See BMT BALL, pg 10 Sports Track stars By JEFF FANECK Post Correspondent DALLAS - While their season records aren't as strong as they would like, the Dallas boys and girls track teams will be repre- sented at districts later, this week. The Dallas girls track team has relied on senior Nadalie Temperine to be a contributor in a major way for four seasons. She has fulfilled almost every expectation and then some. While running the 1600 and 3200 meter events, Nadalie has made her name well-known around the running community, both in track and in cross-coun- try. Nadalie qualified again this past T'm pretty excited. It'll be a good experience.” Aileah Kvashay Dallas junior fall for the state cross country tournament while also contribut- ing to the Dallas field hockey team, which qualified for the playoffs. She credits her success in both events to a lot of hard work along with enjoyment for running. She is looking to qualify for the state competition at 3200 which will be held later this month. Her chances are pretty good, v hope to shine at districts but she knows she will have to do more than just show up. “I should do well,” she said. Nadalie is seeded third in the 3200. Junior Aileah Kvashay has also been a stalwart this season. She participates in the field events with a high degree of success. Aileah has been so successful this season in discus that she holds the mark for the longest throw of the season among any girl partici- pating in the Wyoming Valley Conference, at 112°1”. She is the top seed in Class AAA at districts. Boys and girls track will compete in the District 2 meet Thursday at North Pocono High School. : Gymnasts complete outstanding season Ashlee Leonard and Sarah Rupert, members of the North- east Gymnastics Academy Team, Wilkes-Barre, recently competed in the Hugs & Kisses Invitational in Hershey, PA, the Amish Invita- tional in Lancaster and in the 1998 Level 7 Sectional Meet in Lancaster. The Hugs & Kisses meet was held Feb. 15. Sarah captured first place finish on beam (9.1), third on floor (8.9), fourth on vault (8.95), seventh on bars (8.65) and first all around (35.6). Ashlee placed first on vault (9.25), sec- ond on beam (8.6), fourth on bars (8.9), sixth on floor (8.65) and second all around with a score of 35.4. Both girls competed in the 8-11 year old age group. They also helped their team capture a first place finish. At the Amish Invitational, held on March 14, Ashlee captured first place on vault (9.0), fifth on bars (8.7), seventh on floor (9.2), 10th on beam (8.2) and fourth all around (35.1). Sarah place third on vault (8.975), ninth on beam (8.25) and ninth all around (34.075). Their team captured first place. The 1998 Level 7 Sectional meet was held April 26 at Prestige Gym- nastics in Lancaster. Ashlee, com- peting in the 8-10 age group, placed first on vault (9.55), fifth on beam (9.05), seventh on bars (9.05), ninth on floor (9.25) and left, and Ashlee Leonard. third place all around with a score of 36.9. Sarah competed inthe 11 year old age group. She placed third on vault (9.45), seventh on bars (8.9), ninth on beam (8.75) and fifth all around, scoring 36.2. The team finished in third place. Their all around scores at the Receiving their medals after the Sectional Meet, Sarah Rupert, sectional meet qualifies them to compete in the Pennsylvania State Meet which will be held May 16 and 17 in Philadelphia. Noah Pickett blasted seven kills for the spoilers while Mark Steele recorded 16 assists and eight service points. Dallas 2, Pittston 0 Pete Redman led Dallas with 10 service points including three aces as the Mounts handed Pittstona 15-8, 15-11 loss May 7. Redman also took to the net for 11 kills, while Jim Gavin sliced seven and Erik Steltz dished out six. SOCCER Lehman 5, Hoban 1 _ Lehman rattled off four goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 landslide over Hoban. Kelly Spen- cer tallied two goals and two as- sists giving the Lehman hot foot her 100th goal of her high school career. Sarah Kasper scored two of her own while Janelle Perlis booted one. Lehman 3, Wyo. Seminary 0 The Lady Knights clinched their fourth consecutive Division I championship with a 3-0 shutout of Seminary May 7. Rachel Bouthot put the Knights ahead early in the first with an unas- sisted sizzler to give Lehman a 1- . 0 lead. Kelly Spencer increased the lead to 2-0 later in the half with a goal of hér own off a pass from Jess Elston. Spencer then gave the Knights an insurance goal in the second half. Dallas 0, Hoban 0 Dallas keeper Melanie Sappe recorded nine saves in the cage for the Mounts, contributing to a scoreless double overtime draw between Dallas and Bishop Hoban May 7. Dallas (5-6-2) edged the: Argents in shots on goal 16-12. BASEBALL Meyers 5, Lehman 4 Lehman suffered their first loss of the season after allowing a 4-0 lead slip away as Meyers sank the Knights 5-4 May 6. Lehman chipped away at the Meyers de- fense in the fourth inning driving upa4-0lead, before Meyers roared back with four of their own in the bottom of the fifth and clinched the victory in the bottom of the seventh. Mike Woronko allowed nine hits in the losing effort. Lehman 9, Hafey 2 The Knights clinched the WVC Class AA title May 7 with a 9-2 victory over Bishop Hafey. Hafey held on to a 2-0 advantage until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Knights’ bats came alive and Jason Perlis belted the even- tual game winning hit, a three run triple before Ed Sichler laid down a perfect bunt to send home Perlis. Lehman kept the momentum alive scoring five more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Lehman (14-1) also secured the top spot in the District 2 playoffs. HL Pirates 7 - HL Mets 2 Ryan Besteder’s three hit, 11 strikeout performnance led the Pirates to victory. Besteder is- sued only two walks and also had two hits including a double.
