2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, May 6, 1998 liidoor Color Guards score high at championships " By MICHAEL TWICHELL : Post Correspondent "WILDWOOD, NJ - The Dallas and Lake-Lehman high school Indoor Color Guards both finished bright competition seasons with high placements at this year’s Tournament Indoor Drill Associa- tion (T.I.D.A.) All Chapter Cham- pionship, held last weekend in - Wildwood, New Jersey. ‘Dallas, under the direction of Héather Baldauff, placed 5th in the scholastic “A” class, while Lehman, under the direction of John Taggart, tied for 7th in the scholastic “open” competition. “We've had a terrific season, and ‘to finish in the top-five at champi- onshipsisa great step forward for our program,” said Baldauff. “This year marked a lot of growth for our organization, including a step ih maturity,” said Taggart. Dallas's “Amazing Grace” show, was a consistent hit with audiences and the judging com- munity, earning four- 1st and two- 2nd-place finishes, as well as the Chapter 7 class “A” champion- ship. “We were able to offer a lot with this program, both from a technical and emotional stand- point, and our group did a tre- mendous job of making it hap- pen,” said Baldauff. “We received a lot of compliments from people in the crowds as well as other - instructors.” Lehman’s show, “Heaven & “This year marked a lot of growth for our organization, including a Step in maturity.” John Taggart Lake-Lehman guard instructor Hell,” was also a favorite, with six 1st and three 3rd place finishes, and the Chapter 7 “open” class championship, “We presented a very challenging program for the judging community to interpret on first view, which may have affected some outcomes,” said Taggart. “The overall consensus of the program was a step for- ward, both for the high school and the community.” Both organizations received more recognition this year from their respective schools as well as from the entire Back Mountain community. “One of the best parts of this season has been having people in the area become aware of what we're doing. It's great to be recognized at the competitions, but for the student body of your own school to take notice is a very important step,” said Baldauff. Both programs participated in a performance held at Dallas on April 26, which resulted in a high audience turnout. Dallas also held an assembly in the high % Students to play in High Honors Band Six Dallas Middle School eighth grade students were recently selected to participate in the Luzerne County Junior High Honors Band which was held at Wilkes University. The students selected weere Doug Yeager, Andrew Dale, Ross Linsinbigler, Laura Vodzak, Maria Stevens and Kristen Vodzak. This band was created to enable talented eighth and ninth grade band students from tiiroughout Luzerne County to have the opportunity to perform together. The band presented a public performance at Wilkes University’s Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts.
