Center St. They also participated in a scavenger hunt, in which they had to find such things as rocks with moss on them, a leaf'in the shape of a triangle and even a smell. The hunt opened their eyes to the many different elements that make up nature. At right, Brieann Bolton, Kyla Halsor and Terriann Silbernagel took a peek under some stones. Wycallis Elementary building and renovations to Dal- las Elementary. At the April school board meet- ing, the board unanimously voted to enter into an agreement with the Chartwell Advisory Group for a sales tax refund program. Chartwell will go through the filing and appeals process for the district to attain sales tax refunds offered tonon-profit organizations. Contractors pay taxes on materi- als used, but only the district can get the refund. The two-year process should get the district $100,000 back for the S10 million building and reno- vation project. “This will get us 55 percent of what we might not have seen be- fore.” Chartwell gets a 45 percent commission. The district asked for a lower figure, but the com- pany does not go below 45 per- cent on projects below S30 mil- lion. Board votes to settle with ex-teacher By KYLIE SHAFFERKOETTER ” Post Staff - LEHMAN - The Lake-Lehman School Board opted to let a teacher’s suit against the district go to binding arbitration rather than be fought out in a possibly lengthy legal battle. At its April meeting, the board unanimously voted to enter into a settlement and release agreement with Marietta Toole, a retiring teacher, who sued the districtand William E. Price, superintendent, for sick days she took in the late 1970's. Toole claims the district never granted her request to change her maternity days to sick days. At the time, teachers were not paid for maternity days. The days in question are May 5, 1978 to the end of the school year. Toole’s position is that she started on maternity leave after the birth of her child, but then asked the administration that the days be changed to sick days. Toole, whose attorney is Dan Flannery, filed a complaint with both the PA Human Relations Commission and the federal court. “Rather than string this along for years, the board agreed to a format that will have a quicker hearing and cost much less,” ex- plained Peter Savage, district so- licitor. The hearing is tentatively scheduled for May 4. In other business, Robert Allardyce, board member, ex- pressed concern about $5,000 in long distance phone calls forJanu- ary through March. He said there were 93 calls to Tunkhannock and 66 calls to Pittston among other places such as Lewisburg, Pittsburgh and Olyphant. “Who do we know in Pittsburgh,” he asked of Kathleen Williams, busi- ness manager. Williams said the district does not have equipment to block or trace calls. She said the cost is Plan for a 107' by 50' garage behind Dr. Alan Boonin's office in Dallas Borough. consistent with last year’s bills.
