. 2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, April 8, 1998 Daily paper carriers duke it out, one charged ‘SHAVERTOWN - Two delivery drivers from competing papers ended up throwing punches in an early morning brawl March 27. Nicholas Zapoticky, a driver for * The Times Leader, reported to the ~ Kingston Township police that John Zubkoff, a driver for the Citizen's Voice, punched him in "the face while both men were de- lvering papers on Green Rd. around 4:30 a.m. + Zapoticky told police that Zubkoff punched him in the cheek and nose while ranting about sto- len money. Zapoticky said that he was still in his car when he was Buched. According to police, Zapoticky suffered a black eye and a blood- ied nose. Zubkoff called police the next day to explain that he was only defending himself. He told police that Zapoticky was tailgating him on Green Rd. and that he got out of his car to ask Zapoticky if there was a problem. Zubkoff said that that’s when Zapoticky “sucker-punched” him in the face, knocking him down, Zubkoff said he merely defended himself from Zapoticky. Kingston Township patrolman Scott Davis, said Zubkoff has been charged with harrassment. This month’s winners were awarded a $50 savings bond courtesy of The Dough Company. Dawn Dixon, 18, a senior, won the Student Achiever Award. Dixon is the daughter of Ida Dixon of Wyoming. She is co-editor of the school newspaper and on chorus. Kathetine Austin, 17, a junior, won the School Spirit Award. Austin is the daughter of Joseph and Angela Austin of Shavertown. She is an honor roll student and on the basketball team. Kelly ‘Seman, 17, a senior, won the Citizen Student Award. She is the daughter of Stephen and Marguerite Seman of Trucksville. She is a member of the drama club, newspaper club, Sophomore Steering, Art Club and National Honor Society. She is also involved in cross country and field hockey. Danae Husband, 18, a senior, won the Creative Student Award. She is the daughter of Frank and Sandra Husband of Wyoming. She is a member of the drama club, ‘student council, Art Club, AIDS Council and Environmental Club. Husband has been involved in ballet for 14 years. The jazz band’s next competition will be at Crestwood High School on April 19. Dallas is also planning a trip to Virginia Beach later this year, where the jazz and marching bands will perform, while Lehman is off to Toronto for their trip, where they will participate in parade, concert & jazz band, and indoor guard competition. “We're looking forward to the show,” said Richards. : Both bands are preparing spring concerts. Dallas is set for April 21, including the concert and jazz bands, and Lehman is scheduled for April 30, also including the concert and jazz bands. The Lehman jazz band will also perform at music and arts festivals in Wilkes-Barre. The Dallas marching band will perform May 25 at the annual Memorial Day parade in Dallas, while Lehman will attend the festivities in Sweet Valley.
