2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, March 25, 1998 DISTRICT COURT BRIEFS Sweet Valley man faces assault, driving, drug possession charges Sweet Valley resident Robert Stephen Engle, 44, was arrested Feb. 8 by Lake Township patrol- man John Fuches after police ob- served him driving erratically on Rt. 29. - When police told Engle to exit his truck for field sobriety tests he fled the scene in his vehicle. Engle drove from Rt. 29 to Ide Rd. to Mooretown Rd. and finally onto Crisman Rd. He stopped, got our of his vehicle and ran from police. Engle fought with police as they attempted to apprehend him, the police report said. Both officers were injured during the scuffle. Police used chemical spray to sub- due Engle and Placed him under arrest. A search for weapons yielded a silver and wooden smoking pipe and a four inch knife. Also, a bag ofa substance that appeared tobe marijuana was found in his ve- hicle. Engle refused’ a blood alcohol and drug test. Refusal of the test results in suspension of a driver's license for one year. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a con- trolled substance, two counts of simple assault, two counts of ha- rassment, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct engaged in fighting, pos- session of marijuana, failing to keep right, failing to stop, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driv- ing and fleeing or attempting to elude police. Related charges of aggravated assault, simple as- sault, reckless driving and reck- lessly endangering another were dismissed. RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT Dallas resident William J. Breha, 20, was arrested Feb. 6 by Lehman Township patrolman Scott Davis after police were called ~ to Lake-Lehman High School re- garding a person who was sprayed with pepper spray. Upon arrival at the school, po- lice observed several people out- side the school lobby coughing. Kevin Burke, 23, told police that he got in an argument with Jason “Jake” Santee. Santee reportedly punched Burke while Breha also started to punch him. Richard Blaine pulled Breha off Burke twice. Breha then sprayed pepper spray into Burke's face. Travis Fink, 18, told Breha to back away before Breha, Santee, Chester Smith Jr., 19, began as- saulting him. Breha then sprayed Fink, police said. Breha was charged with reck- less endangerment of another per- son, disorderly conduct, harass- ment and simple assault. CHARGES * Hunlock Creek resident Kathryn Lee Rudaski, 17, was ar- rested Jan. 25 by Lehman Town- ship patrolman Scott Davis after police observed her fail to stop at a stop sign. Rudaski told police she could not take a field sobriety test be- cause she was drunk and would fail. She was taken to Wilkes- Barre General Hospital where her blood alcohol level was determined to be .128. She was charged with driving under the influence of al- cohol. A charge of failing to stop at a stop sign was dismissed. She waived her right to a pre- liminary hearing before District Justice James Tupper. e Falls resident Joseph Buzunis, 36, was arrested Jan. 17 by State Trooper Thomas Kaminski after police observed his vehicle stopped on the side of Carverton Rd. Buzunis was in his vehicle is what police observed to be a “dazed status.” When asked to step out of his vehicle, Buzunis had tobe held up by police. He was taken to the Luzerne County Processing Cen- ter where his blood alcohol level was determined to be .204, twice the legal limit. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Related charges of improper stop and careless driv- ing were dismissed. e Larksville resident Kimberly A. Edwards, 31, was arrested Jan. 18 by Jackson Township patrol- man Benjamin Bigus after police received a call from Larksville po- lice about a brown Pontiac driving erratically on Mountain Rd. to- ward Weavertown Rd. in Jackson After failing field sobriety tests, Edwards was taken to Wilkes- Barre General Hospital where her blood alcohol level was determined to be .25. She was charged with driving under the influence of al- cohol and waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Dis- trict Justice James Tupper. e Dallas resident James Mehal, 34, was arrested Jan. 24 by Leh- man Township patrolman Scott Davis after police observed him driving erratically on Rt. 415. After failing field sobriety tests, he was taken to Wilkes-Barre Gen- eral Hospital where his blood al- cohol level was determined to be .193. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and waived his right to a preliminary hearing before District Justice James Tupper. FALSE REPORT Scranton resident Donald Fuller, 20, was arrested Dec. 25 by Dallas Township patrolman David Fitch after police were called to an auto accident of Lower Demunds Rd. Fuller let a juvenile female without a valid driver’s li- cense drive his car, police said. Initially the juvenile and Fuller said that he was driving, but later changed their story. The union bargaining commit- tee says it has not been notified of any negotiation date. Terry Tipping, CWA chair of the negotiation committee, said the issues at hand are wages, pen- sions, health care and job secu- rity. “The company is very profit- able.
