This is the sixth year for the tourney which features all of the girls’ teams from the Back Moun- tain. The format pits four teams in five divisions, from 4th grade up through 8th grade. A total of 22 teams played in games which ‘concluded with the championship games in each division Sunday. * 8th grade ' In the eighth grade division, ‘Wyoming Valley West the was champion after a victory over ‘Gate of Heaven by a score of 43- 27. Jessica Ohrin was high scorer ‘with 16 points, Sarah Armand led GOH with 12 points. In the con- solation game, Regis Academy beat Dallas Youth Basketball by a score of 42-29 for third place. Leading scorers were Amber DelPriore (Regis) with 13 points, Karla Blase (DYB) with 10 pomis. In first round games, Gate of Heaven beat Dallas Youth Bas- ketball by a score of 42-34 and Wyoming Valley West beat Regis Academy by a score of 51-41. Leading scorers were Sarah Armand and Katie Delaney for GOH with 12 and 11 points re- spectively, Carla Blase with 14 for DYB, Jessica Ohrin WVW with 17 points and Alison Zekoski (Regis) with 16 points. 7th grade The seventh grade champion- ship went to Gate of Heaven. The Gators beat Regis in the champi- onship game by a score of 35-23. Ten girls for GOH scored with Molly Guntli leading the way with 10 points. Regis was led by Lauren Patton with 15 points. In the third place game, DYB downed Wyoming Valley West, 37-21. Leading scorers were Rachel Kukosky DYB, with 23 points and Cassie Sailor, WVW with 11 points. Basketball Shoot- Out Sunday The third annual Back Mountain Basketball Shoot-out sponsored ‘by Kingston Township Recreation will be held Sun., March 15 at the . Dallas Middle School Gym between 12 and 5 p.m. The Shoot-out is a ‘Free Throw and 3-Point (Lay-ups for the first age group) shooting ‘competition open to boys and girls ages seven through16. There will also be a parent/child team shooting competition. Age Groups and ‘approximate start times are as follows: Age Groups 7 -8 and 9-10 at 12:30; Age Groups 11-12and 13-14, at 1:45; Age Group 15-16at3 p.m. Parent/Child teams at 4 p.m. All participants must report 30 minutes before scheduled start time to register. First, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded per age group. There is no fee for residents of Kingston Township and a $5 fee for non-township residents. BMT soccer registration March 28 The Back Mountain Youth Soccer Association is announcing the registration for Fall, 1998 Intramural Soccer Program. It will be held on Sat. Cafeteria. Beginning players must be at least six years of age by July 31. Due to the uncertainty concerning playing field availability, the Association reserves the right to limit player registration. GOH was down by 7 points with 40 seconds to go and came back and tied the game with 6 seconds left. Sarah Armaghan from Regis hit a free throw with 3 seconds to go to win the game for Regis. Leading scor- ers were Cory Patton for Regis with 13 points and Jonelle Zabresky for GOH with 14 points. In the third place game, DYB beat Lehman 25-14. Jodie Dickson and Megan Savage led the way for DYB while Janine Mitkus and Samantha Pankratz scored 6 points each for Lehman. In the first round, Regis downed DYB, 32-27 while GOH beat Lehman 22-10. Dallas 54 - Tunkhannock Orange 36 Dallas advanced to the cham- pionship game with a 54-36 win over Tunkhannock Orange. Tim Kerestes scored 13 points for Dal- las while Elijah Miller had 4 points. Also playing well in the tourna- ment were Kevin Domzalski, Sam Brown and Chris Higdon. The team was coached by Joe Kerestes, Guthrie Mitchell and Jeff Pace. Tunkhannock was led by Andy Soltis with 7 points, Mike Fuller with 6, Brendan Mulhern with 5 and Kyle Johnson with 4. Tunkhannock 50 - - St. Hedwig’s 48 Tunkhannock topped St. Hedwig’'s 50-48 in overtime as Jon Clemens scored 17 points ‘and Patrick Kashinsky 13. Adam Pascoe added 6 points. L-L Hot Shot hoopsters The Lake-Lehman Middle Level Education Building recently held its annual hot shot basketball contest. The contest consisted of several rounds in which each stu- dent had 45 seconds per round to shoot from different spots on the basketball court to gather points. In each gym class the top 12 stu- dents went on to become the champions. This was based on the number of points that they received, their age, and their gen- der. Participants would then con- tinue on to play the other class champions. The students pic- tured successfully completed these rounds. In addition they also had to complete the final round to become champion.
