She graduated from Kingston Township High School and the Wyoming Seminary School of Business. : She lived on Shaver Avenue, Shavertown for many years be- fore moving to Kunkle. She was a member of the Hunts- ville Christian Church. She was a past Worthy Matron "of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 396, Dallas, and a Girl Scout leader in Shavertown for many years. Surviving are her husband, William E.; daughters, Mrs. Max (Marjorie) Goldworthy, Gunbower, Australia; Mrs. John (Susan) O’Malia, Shavertown; sisters, Mrs. William (Margaret) Coates, Naples, FL; Mrs. Edward (Ruth) Corcoran, Shavertown; three grandsons. Before retiring, he was em- ployed as a corrections officer at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas. : He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. He was a member of the Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dallas, the Greater West Side Chapter 102 of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1425. Plymouth and the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees. He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Alexander and Chester. Before retiring 10 years ago, he was employed by the state De- partment of Transportation for 20 years. ’ He attended the Ruggles United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Harveys Lake Volunteer Fire Co., and the American Federation of State and Municipal Employees Union. Hules, 63, of Hunts- ville, Jackson Township, died Jan. 7, 1998, atthe Hospice Care of the VNA, Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre. Born Sept. 20, 1934, in Wilkes- Barre, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary Hughes Hules. He resided in Huntsville for the past 31 years. Before he retired in 1996, he was employed by Intermetro In- dustries, Wilkes-Barre for 15 years and previously was employed for 19 years by the former Faith Shoe Co. Wilkes-Barre. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge Cita- tionin 1953 and the Korean Presi- dential Unit Citation in 1954. He was aretired member of the Penn- sylvania National Guard where he was last attched with Com- pany D, Second Battalion 103rd Armor. He was a member of Huntsville United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of PNGEA. He was also a member of the AMVets, Post 189; the Ameri- can legion Post 510; the American Association of Retired Persons and the U.S. Steel Workers of America 5652. He and his wife, the former PatriciaJoy Stockham, celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on Dec. 18. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Young; a stepsister, Catherine Andrew; and a step- brother Joseph Hules. Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons, Curtis, Huntingtown, MD; William, Luzerne; Andrew, Sweet Valley, Ross Township; a daughter, Deborah Betcher, Bensalem; three grandchildren; a brother, Hilton Hules, Larksville; a sister, Evelyn Faltz, Harveys Lake; numerous nieces and neph- ews.
