Adopt-A-Family helps in area The 1997 Adopt-A-Family Program matches local individuals, organizations, and families with needy families and their children in both Luzerne and Lackawanna counties during the holiday season. The program is coordinated through the efforts of the staff and volunteers of the Catherine McAuley Center. The Program began in 1991 when the Center was contacted by individuals in the community who wanted to do something on “a one-on-one special project”. ideas, and household items will be suggested to donors who are interested in adopting a family and/or monetary donations can be made to the program that will be used for families not adopted. Families who are interested in being adopted must have proof of active medical assistance from caseworker or other proof of income, clothing sizes and toy suggestions for children. In-person registration will be held Monday and Wednesday from 1.p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Oct. 27. First come-first serve applications will be taken until Nov. 19 unless the predetermined quota is filled. Donor applications will be accepted anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
