Coon, formerly of Shavertown, Kingston Township, died July 13, 1997, at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township. Born in Carverton, Kingston Township, he was the son of the late Harvey and Cora Hay Coon. He attended Carverton Schools. Prior to his retirement in 1970, he was employed for many years as an operating engineer by the U.S. Government. His projects included work on the Panama “Canal. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shavertown; International Union of Operating Engineers Local 77, Washington D.C.;B.P.O.F.E.; Elks Lodge 2283, Laurel, MD; and Shekinak Royal Arch Chapter 182. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Evelyn Schmoll and daughters, Edna Birk and Mina Jane Tozier. Surviving are a son, Edward ~ H., Rockford, IL; 11 grandchil- dren; numerous great-grandchil- dren; and a sister, Mina McCracken, Jenkins Township. During World War II he was employed by the York Safe and Lock Co., in the munitions de- partment and by the Philadelphia Shipyard. He was later self-employed as a farmer and as a mechanic by Boeing Vertol, helicopter division. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth and its Holy Name So- ciety. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Josephine Penkala; a daughter, Elizabeth; brothers, Paul, Raymond, John and Irvin; sisters, Marie Rush, Charlotte Gardjulis and Margaret ‘McMonigle. He was a member of the Irem Golf Association, and was past director of the Royal Order of Jest- ers Court 154. Surviving are his wife, the former Shirley Bachman; a son, Harris D.
