During her academic ca- reer at Sem, she received many awards and honors including the John G. Ruggles Il Memorial Prize for Creative Writing; was a Na- tional French Contest winner; re- ceived the Edwin J. Roberts Me- morial Prize for Outstanding Latin ‘Scholarship; and was named to the Dean's List with High Honors for all four years at Sem. She was a member of the Cum Laude Society, was a National -Merit Commended student and received the ETS AP Scholar “ Award. She was a member of Model U.N., was a member of the chorale, and was involved in com- munity service projects including the Student Government Thanks- giving Project, the Salvation Army Christmas Project, and volun- teered for the Crop Walk and the March of Dimes. Udoshi. received first-place in the Wyoming Valley Poetry Con- test; won two gold cups for Junior Mozart Piano Festival; was a semi- finalist in the National Library of Poetry contest; was inducted into the International Poetry Society; had a selection of her poetry pub- lished in Whispers at Dusk, and is a seven-year member of the Na- tional Piano Playing Guild. She is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Stu- dents. Udoshi plans to attend Wellesley College in the fall. Party of the Month Club The Party of the Month Club concluded their 1996-1997 season with a dinner dance held recently at the Irem Temple Country Club, Dallas. L-L grads head to Parris Island Four recent graduates of Lake-Lehman High School are heading to Parris Island, SC, where they will undergo more than 12 weeks of intense Marine Corps recruit training to become U.S. Marines. The students all 1997 graduates of Lake-Lehman are: Darrel Hogan, Terry Newell, Zach Ferguson and Tim Brink. Two of the Marine recruits are expected to leave in July and the other two in late summer and fall. Upon graduation from recruit training, the four will return home for 10 days leave. They will then report to Marine Combat Training, Camp Lejeune, NC, where they will complete another four weeks of advanced infantry instruction. They each will then attend schools where they will earn an occupational specialty before being assigned to a permanent duty station. Kohli begins basic training Army Reserve Pvt. Robert R. Kohli has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbis, SC. During the eight weeks of training, the soldiers will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, Army history and traditions, and special training in human relations. Kohli is the son of Gary B. and Rebecca K. Kohli of Shavertown. He is a 1995 graduate of Dallas Senior High School. Lazar finishes Marine Corps basic training Marine Pvt. Stephen A. Lazar, son of Stephen Lazar of Chase Road, Shavertown, recently completed basic teaming at Marine Corps Recruit Deot, San Diego, CA. Lazar successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Robert Westawski earns scholarship Robert Westawski of Dallas, has been awarded a $1,000 Reverend Michael W. Moynihan Memorial Scholarship in recognition of his academic accomplishments at D’Youville College. He is majoring in Occupational Therapy at the private college. The scholarship is available to qualifying full-time students and recipients are selected by the col- lege. D’Youville was chartered ‘in 1908 and currently enrolls 1900 students.
