The annual program will honor the memory of all departed ser- vicemen and women who made a supreme sacrifice for their coun- try and community. American Legion to build watchfire to honor veterans The Dallas American Legion Post will build a watchfire on the grounds of the American Legion Post Home, Hwy. 415, in Dallas on Sun., May 25, at 8 p.m. John Tasco, Commander of the post will lead members and guests in the lighting of the fire. Watchfires are an adaptation of the Revolutionary War practice of lighting fires so soldiers might find their way back to camp. Leg- end has it that the custom dates far back in time to Julius Caesar's Roman Army. Along with the watchfire being a remembrance for POW /MIAs and the beginning of the Memo- rial Day memory, it will also be an opportunity to honor the Ameri- can Flag. Gilvary swerved from lane to lane and ran off the road a few times at a rate of speed up to 59 mph. Gilvary's car registration was expired when police stopped him. After failing field sobriety tests, Gilvary was taken to the Wilkes- Barre Central Processing Center for a breath test that showed his blood alcohol level to be 0.167 percent. He was charged for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.10 of greater. Related charges of operating a vehicle without valid inspection, exceeding maximum speed limit by 19 mph and care- less driving were dismissed. ¢ Harveys Lake resident Mark Pilger, 39, waived his right to a preliminary hearing after he was arrested on March 13 by Dallas Borough patrolman James Drury after police observed him driving erratically on Rt. 415, Hillside Dr. and Ridge Ave. Pilger was driving north on Rt. 415 in the southbound passing lane at a rate of speed up to 85 mph.
