After gaining zoning approval from Dallas Bor- ough, Luzerne National Bank is planning to open its third branch on property that now holds the Rothstein Real Estate building and the old Forty Fort Dairy: “We're a bank committed to serving just the Wyoming Valley,” said William Leandri, bank presi- dent and chief executive officer. “A lot of our customers are from the Back Mountain and we get a lot of requests for a Back Moun- tain branch. It's a natural exten- sion of our banking system.” Construction on the new branch will begin inJune. To make way for the new building, the Rothstein building, a house next door and the old dairy will be torn down. Leandri noted the dilapi- dated condition of the dairy. “It is a hazard and an eyesore.” Leandri said the new building will be “a very attractive, colonial style bank, designed to blend with the character of the Back Moun- tain.” The one-story building will have three drive-up windows and an ATM. Leandri said the bank Ha Reon for the community Dallas Family Practice held an open house recently to introduce the new community room that is now available for use by organizations in the Back Mountain. Leandri admits that Luzerne National isn’t too different than other banks, but he said, “We tend to be a little more down home and personal with our customers. Most of our new customers come from referrals.” Luzerne National was founded in 1907 by local businessmen who felt a bank was needed that would be "more sensitive to the needs of small businesses and everyday customers,” Leandri explained. The bank opened its second branch in Swoyersville in Novem- ber 1977. Leandri, who grew up in Lu- zerne and who has lived in the Back Mountain for 12 years, has been with Luzerne National for four years. “We're looking forward to coming to the Back Mountain,” he said. “I think it will be good for the bank and for the community.” Conologue gives talk on cholesterol Katie Conologue, a student in- tern with the Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Bureau for the Aging will be presenting, “Cholesterol...The Killer Within.” at the Dallas Senior Center, 22 Rice Street, Dallas, on April 17 at 11 a.m. This program will un- cover the real facts about heart disease, the nation’s single larg- estkiller.
