A lifelong resident : of Trucksville, he was born Feb. 13, 1912, the son of the late Frank and Bertha Crawford Mathers. His love of the community in which he lived was evidenced by his involvement as township su- pervisor, zoning board member, member of the Trucksville Fire Dept., adult leader Troop 155 - Boy Scouts of America and Back Mountain Little League coach. He was a Grand Noble of the Interna- tional Order of the Odd Fellows and past member of the Harveys Lake Rod and Gun Club. Prior to his retirement, he was construction superintendent for Grandeur Homes, Luzerne. Ear- ~ lier, he had worked several years as a self-employed building con- tractor and carpenter. He was preceded in death by brothers, F. Gordon, Walter (Bill), and Robert and sister, Ruth - Mathers Nylund. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Mary E. Heltzel; ~ sons, Hap, Lacey, WA; Gary, Daniel, and Philip, all of Trucksville; brother, David, Trucksville; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
