his college career. Dallas, PA Wednesday, March 26, 1997 10 The Dallas Post EEE Softball (continued from page 9) Jen Naugle was expected to start in left field. In her absence, Kernag, Alters and junior Jessica Kobal will see time. With Newell on the sidelines, there is a hole in center field. “Nicky is a returning starter in center field and is a key to our outfield,” said Gray. “I haven't decided what I'm going to do about that situation.” Right field could see a quartet of players, including transfer stu- dent Rebecca Pugh, junior An- drea Bryant, Michaels and Ha- lowich. Offensively, the team will rely on the power of Spencer, Wolfe and Newell. “These three players all provide power to our lineup,” said Gray. “They will play key roles for us.” Despite the unfortunate inju- ries, Gray is optimistic about the season. “I'm impressed by the chemistry of this team already,” said Gray. “I think you need good chemistry to be successful. Our goal is to win our division. I think this team is capable of doing that.” Geurin (continued from page 9) reer. “That loss was very emo- tional for Mike,” explained Will- iams. "He set his sights on win- ning a national title. I think that loss became a motivational factor for him at the collegiate level.” According to Williams, the Lake-Lehman wrestlers have tracked Geurin's success during “Our kids cer- tainly know who Mike is,” he ex- plained. “He's been at our prac- tices during his semester breaks and was at the Tunkhannock Tournament this year, where he ~ made it a point to see some of our guys wrestle. It is great to have a guy of his caliber associated with our program.” While wrestling at Lake-Leh- man, Geurin took it upon himself to attend the J. Robinson Inten- sive Wrestling Camp in Iowa and it paid dividends. “That was the type of kid Mike was,” explained Williams. “Most of our guys went “We take a great deal of pride in Mike's success. We point to him as an example in the practice room.” Tom Williams Lake-Lehman co-head coach to various wrestling camps, but they went as a team. Mike went to one of the toughest camps in the country and he did it all by him- self because he was motivated to be the best.” “Eric Maciejczak decided to go . to that camp last summer,” said Williams. “He was a state quali- fier this season. That's just an- other way that Mike has impacted our program.” Geurin is the third All-Ameri- can the Lake-Lehman wrestling program has produced. The first two were Ricky and Rocky Bonomo 10 years ago. Ricky won three NCAA titles while Rocky was a two-time All-American while wres- tling at Bloomsburg University. Rocky now serves as an assistant coach at Lock Haven. “It was a good situation having Rocky as one of my coaches,” said Geurin. “We get along well and he really motivated me. He's been through a lot of the things that I had to go through this season. He really helped me with Qeaimg with pressure.’ With his collegiate career over, Geurin is looking to the future. “I'm taking a few months off from wrestling and then I'll consider some freestyle competitions,” he explained. “I'm going to be a volunteer assistant coach with the team next year as I finish my degree. Then, I hope to teach and coach wrestling.” q | 4 | Lake-Lehman softball team, from left, first row; Marisa Michaels, Jen Johnstone, Jaclyn Walkowiak, Kasey Wagner.
