She was driving south on 415 and made a left turn onto Center Hill Rd., but hit the gas instead of the brake. The car bounced off the guard rail on the opposite side of the road, turned completely around and climbed over the rail before striking a telephone pole. Dallas Borough officer William Norris investigated the accident. Pet 4.49 72 | BILOS DISTRICT COURT BRIEFS ~The following defendants waived their right to preliminary hearings before District James Tupper March 4: DUI CHARGES {IE © eo Dallas resident James Sangston, 56, who was arrested Jan. 6 by Dallas Borough patrol- man James Drury after police observed him driving erratically on Main St. and Pioneer Ave. According to the police report, Sangston was driving without lights and hit both a stone wall and a utility pole on Pioneer Ave. After failing field sobriety tests, Sangston took a blood test which ‘showed his blood alcohol level to be .334, more than three times the legal limit of .10. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and operating without lights. « Dallas resident Mark Swatko, 47, who was arrested Dec. 24 by Lehman Township patrolman Scott Davis after police observed him driving erratically on Hunts- ville-Idetown Rd. and Idetown Rd. According to the police report, when police first saw the defen- dant, he was driving from Hunts- villé-Idetown Rd. over Rt. 118 to Idetown Rd., into the oncoming lane. Swatko was traveling less than 10 mph. Harveys Lake pa- ~~ trolman James Karlowicz pulled - in front of Swatko’s car and . stopped him. A piece of the front i spoiler fell free of the car as it | stopped. ; Police noticed fresh damage to the defendant's car. Police asked ; Swatko what he had hit and he | stated he had not hit anything. 1 Police arrested Swatko for driving : under the influence of alcohol. He ! was transported to Wilkes-Barre ! General Hospital where he refused ! to take a blood test. : A search of Huntsville-Idetown ‘road located the scene of the i accident. A wooden mailbox post i was found broken and a cement ! base for the mailbox was broken ‘ with traces of blue paint on the it. A related charge of damage to { unattended vehicle or property ‘ was dismissed. THEFT, FORGERY CHARGES Wilkes-Barre resident Edward Robinson, 34, who was arrested Jan. 15 by Dallas Township pa- trolman Douglas Higgins after he reportedly attempted to use a sto- len savings account card to with- draw $1, 500 from Franklin First Savings Bank in the Dallas Town- ship. According to the police report, Robinson drove a dark blue late model Cadillac to the drive up window at the bank. The defen- dant allegedly put the stolen sav- ings card in the tube and sent it to the teller. The teller then sent him a withdrawal slip to sign. Robinson handed it to a female sitting in the passenger seat. She signed it and returned it to the teller. After the teller ran the ac- count on the computer she saw a ‘stop order on it. - The teller then asked the defendant to come in- side the bank, he then smiled, waved and said “okay,” then drove away. Police took a description of the suspect and the car from the teller. On Nov. 11, Swoyersville patrol- man, Sgt. Demarie informed the Dallas Twp. police they arrested a male who matched the descrip- tion of Robinson and the vehicle he was driving matched that of the car. The Edwardsville police had both the male and female in custody. The teller at the bank identified Robinson from a photo lineup. He is charged with attempted theft by unlawful taking, conspiring forgery and receiving stolen prop- erty. HARASSMENT CHARGE Dallas resident Mark Walter Pilger, 38, was arrested for ha- rassment on Feb. 26 by Harveys Lake patrolman Damian Hoover after police were called about a domestic dispute. When police arrived at Pilger’s house, he and his wife were arguing in the front yard. Pilger’s wife told police that she asked Pilger where he had been. When he did not answer, | Kingston Twp. Feb. zoning permits © Benjamin W. Gorey, zoning officer for Kingston Township collected $1,818 in fees for the month of February. The largest permits were to M. Biggs of 14 Lehigh St. for exterior repair, valued at $3,525 and R. Hayes of 69 Perrin Ave. for a roof, valued at $3,500. i his wife called a friend and while she was on the phone he hit her in the face. Pilger admitted to striking his wife and was placed under arrest. Two related charges of simple as- sault and terroristic threats were dropped. RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT Dallas resident Ernest Smith, 36, was arrested on Dec. 3 by Harveys Lake patrolman J. Karlowicz after police were called about a man with a gun. Smith allegedly pointed a Mossberg 12- gauge shotgun at his landlord when she attempted to collect the months rent. A witness who heard the con- versation said she heard Smith yell tohis landlord to come inside. The witness said she heard a gun cock and ran to call the police. ~ Smith admitted he pointed a gun "at his landlord. He was charged with reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. Related charges of simple assault and harassment were dismissed.
