Joshua E. Bryant, Jr., 72, of
the Sunset Section of Harveys
Lake, died Mar. 9, 1997, at his
home.
Born in Kingston, he was the
son of the late Joshua E. and
Margarite Jones Bryant Sr.
‘He attended Kingston Schools.
He served in the U.S. Army Air
Corps in Italy, Africa, and France
during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1986,
‘he owned Bryant's the Bicycle
King, Kingston; Bryant's Mobile
Home Sales, Dallas and Bryant's
Mobile Home Park, Lehman. Ear-
lier, he managed Sunny Acres,
Niagara Falls, NY.
He was a Harveys Lake resi-
dent for the past 33 years.
He was a member of American
Legion Post 967, Harveys Lake;
Anthracite Post 283 V.F.W., King-
ston; Harveys Lake Protective As-
‘sociation; and the Alderson United
Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a
brother Robert, and a sister, Betty
Jones.
Surviving are his wife of 49
‘years, the former Margaretta
Puterbaugh; sons, Bradley E. and
JoshuaE. III, both of Dallas; David
W., Harveys Lake; a daughter,
Donna Bryant, Harveys Lake;
eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11
a.m. Wednesay from the Richard
H. Disque Funeral Home, 672 Me-
morial Highway, Dallas, with Rev.
W. William Kennard, pastor of the
Alderson United Methodist
Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Chapel
Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the Alderson United Meth-
odist Church, RR 1, Box 234,

Margaret M. Frydlewicz, 69, of
. Lower Demunds Road, Dallas,
. died Mar. 8, 1997, at the inpatient

. Wilkes-Barre.
. Born July 23, 1927, she was
‘ the daughter of the late Ernest
« and Mae Price Jenkins.
~ Shemoved to the Dallas area in
1950. She lived with her friend,
Helen Sudosky on Lower
Demunds Road since the death of
her husband in 1980.
Surviving are a son, Howard
Ernest Price, Hunlock Creek,
Hunlock Township; three grand-
children and a great-grandson.
Interment, Chapel Lawn Me-
morial Park, Dallas.
JAMES CONAGHAN
James F. Conaghan, 75, of
Shavertown, Kingston Township,
died Mar. 3, 1997, at the Wilks-
Barre General Hospital.
Born May: 31, 1921 in
Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of
thelate Owen and Catherine Scally
‘Conaghan.
He attended St. Michael's
School and served with the U.S. .
Army during World War II.
Before retiring in 1984, he was
employed for many years as a
food service manager by Slater
Sustem Food Service, Custom
Foods and the Macke Co.
He was a member of St.
Therese’s Church, Shavertown.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, John; a sister, Elizabeth
Fiore.
He and his wife the former Helen
Suprick, celebrated their 49th
wedding anniversary on Sept. 6,
1996. |
Surviving in addition to his wife
are a son, James G., VA; a daugh-
ter, Dr. Catherine Conaghan,
‘Canada; a brother, Owen,
Archbald; two grandchildren.
Interment, Mount Olivet Cem-
. etery, Carverton, Kingston Town-
ship.
CHARLES KUPSTAS
Charles D. Kupstas, of RR 2,
Loyalville, died Mar. 6, 1997, at
the Lakeside Nursing Center,
Harveys Lake.
Born in Larksville, he was the
son of the late Charles and
Catherine Balavage Kupstas.
He resided most of his life in
Loyalville, and was formerly em-
ployed by Armour Tannery Co.,
Noxen, and operated a grocery
store in Loyalville.
He was a member of St. Mary's
Annunciation Church, Kingston.
He was preceded in death by
his sister, Cecelia Germick.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Anna Tamalis; brothers,
Edward, Shavertown; Abdon,
Fernbrook; sisters, Helen Wallace,
Kingston; Isabelle Schall,
Larksville; Theodora Germick,
Loyalville; Margaret Lukasavage,
Shavertown; several nieces and
nephews.
Interment, Chestnut Grove
Cemetery, Loyalville.
MARIAN BAIRD
Marian W. Baird, 90, of Cliffside
Avenue, Trucksville, Kingston
Township, died Mar. 6, 1997, at
the Meadows Nursing Center,
Dallas Township.
Born in Centermoreland, she
was the daughter of the late James
and Jesse Schoonover Winters.
She graduated from West
Pittston High School and
Bloomsburg Normal School.
She was an elementary school
teacher.
She was a member of the Irem
Temple Women's Auxiliary,
Dorranceton United Methodist
Church, Kingston, where she was
a Sunday School teacher and
member of its women’s society.
She was preceded in death by
sisters, Leona Thomas and Edith
Schoonover.
She and her husband, Robert
W., were married 69 years.
Surviving are children, Robert
(Bobby) and Beverly Johnson, of
Trucksville; seven grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren.
Interment, Memorial Shrine
Park, Carverton.
JOHN KENNEDY
Dr. John N. Kennedy, 84, of
Laselle Avenue, Shavertown, King-
ston Township died Mar. 2, 1997,
at the Wilkes-Barre General Hos-
pital.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was
the son of Alexander and Jessie
Aitken Kerinedy.
He served with the U.S. Army
during World War II and was the
recipient of the Huegenot Cross.
He interned in pediatrics at
Bellevue Hospital, NYC. He be-
gan a resident in eye, ear, nose
and throat and neurosurgery at
Newark Eye and Ear Infirmary.
In 1985, he opened an internal
medicine practice in Shavertown.
During that time he was an active
staff member of Nanticoke State
General Hospital and Nesbitt Me-
morial Hospital, Kingston.
He was also the former medical
director of St. Stanislaus Medical
Care Center in Sheatown, New-
port Township and Medical Af-
fairs, Medical Health Care,
Nanticoke.
He lived in Shavertown since
1981, previously residing in Har-
veys Lake.
He attended the Bennett Pres-
byterian Church, Luzerne.
He was a member of the Ameri-
can Medical Association, the Lu-
zerne County Medical Society, the
Medical Club of Philadelphia, the
American Guild Organist, Phi
Lambda Upsilon Silmax, and the
Order of the Scottish Clans.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs.
Margaret Huber, -North Plainfield,
NJ; a brother, Alex Kennedy,
Naples, FL; many nieces and neph-
ews.
Interment, Evergreen Cem-
etery, Clinton, NJ.
Memorial donations may be

THOMAS O’BRIEN
Thomas J. “Chaz” O'Brien, 67,
of Harveys Lake, died Mar. 3, 1997,
at the Wilkes-Barre General Hos-
pital.
Born Nov. 24, 1929, in New
York City, he was the son of the
late William and Emily O’Brien.
He owned and operated the
Harveys Lake Diving School Inc.,
for more than 40 years.
He was preceded in death by
his brother, William “Pee Wee”
O'Brien. \
Surviving are his wife, the
former Gloria Danko, Dallas; sons,
Thomas, James and Robert, all of
Fl.; daughters, Gloria Carr, CA;
Cynthia O’Brien, VA; five grand-
children; a great-grandddaughter:;
numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery,
Hanover Township.
GUY ZERFOSS
Guy Zerfoss, Jr., 68, of Hunts-
ville Road, Shavertown, Kingston
Township, died Mar. 5, 1997, at
the Wilkes-Barre General Hospi-
tal.
Born Sept. 21, 1928 in
Nanticoke, he was the son of the
late Guy and Lella Wandell
Zerfoss.
He was a self-employed as a
mechanic.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Dorothy Eckrote; daugh-
ters, Debra Silvetti, Hunlock
Creek; Pauline Dennis,
Mountaintop; a son, Guy III, Har-
veys Lake; a brother, Charles,
Sweet Valley; seven grandchil-
dren; eight great-grandchildren.
Interment, Chapel Lawn Me-
morial Park, Dallas.
