Dallas Middle science classes explore biomes Recently Mrs. Joan Rakowski’'s Dallas Middle School science classes held a biome contest. A biome is a geographical area that shares the same type of weather conditions. There were land and water biomes entered into the contest. The water biome winner was Lindsay Kelly. Lindsay featured a salt water biome actually brought from the Atlantic off the coast of Massachusetts. The land biome winners were: desert, Jonathan Nutche; tropical rain forest, Chris Carr; temperate deciduous forest, Julena Haines; grasslands, Megan Riley; taiga, Michael Rakowski; tundra, Paul Douglas. The overall winner was Megan Riley. Mercy Center Preschool taking '97-98 registrations Mercy Center Preschool, located on the grounds of College Misericordia in Dallas, is offering an open house and registration for the 1997-98 term on March 9, from 2 to 4 p.m., according to Sister Stella Maris Ozimkowski, - RSM, administrator. The daughter of Dr. and Maureen Stair of Trucksville, Erin is one of 1,200 students (a figure which includes 150 women) se- lected annually from a total of 13,000 applicants. The rigid screening process includes a physical fitness test, a complete medical examination and inter- views with senators and local con- gressmen. Erin received nomina- tions, both from Congressman Academically, Erin is presently first in her class and serves as president of the Student Council. In addition, she has earned var- sity letters in field hockey, cross country and soccer. Besides the O'Reilly soccer team, she is also a member of the Back Mountain Dragons soccer team which com- petes in the Phildadelphia based premier League and is coached by Paul Callahan. A three-time par- ticipant in the Keystone Games, Erin works as a soccer referee, a lifeguard and volunteers with youth soccer programs. Her other interests include the violin and singing in Bishop O'Reilly's cham- ber choir and folk group.
