2 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, January 8, 1997 DISTRICT COURT BRIEFS FACES TRIAL ON BURGLARY CHARGE «'-Shavertown resident Stephen Tomasura, 18, waived his right to a hearing before District Justice James Tupper Dec. 26. Tomasura was arrested on Oct. 11 by Dallas Twp. patrolman Jeffrey J. Dennis after he confessed to the partici- pation in a Sept. robbery of a Dallas home. Tomasura and four other juveniles allegedly drove to a Dallas home on Sept. 6, broke in and stole two VCR's, disc changer, phone and an answering machine, along with jewelery. Many pieces of the jewelery were sold to Wyo- ming Jewelery and to another minor at Dallas Senior High. Most of-he stolen property was recov- ered. Tomasura was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy by unlawful taking and theft by unlawful tak- ing. ASSAULT CHARGE GOES TO TRIAL ~~ Hummelstown resident Theodore Edwin Hall, 28, who ‘was arrested on Dec. 11 by Dallas Twp. patrolman Brian Feeney af- ter police responded to a report of a sexual assault that had alleg- edly taken place in the parking lot of Offset Paperback Inc., will face trial on charges of indecent as- sault and making terroristic threats. i Related charges of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault forcible compulsion, intimidation of a witness/victim, simple as- sault, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment were dismissed. DRUG CHARGES *Philadelphia resident Chante Price, 30, pled guilty to posses- sion of marijuana on Dec. 19. Price was arrested by State Police trooper Walter J. Koehler after police found marijuana during a mandatory search at the State Correctional Institution in Dal- las. The defendant’s change purse was searched and police discov- ered a partially smoked marijuana cigarette. Price said she didn’t realize the cigarette was in her purse. After a field test on the substance, it was proven to be marijuana. Price admitted the cigarette was hers. e Philadelphia resident Odeba McMillan, 27, pled guilty to pos- session of marijuana on Dec. 19. McMillan was arrested by State Police trooper Walter J. Koehler after police found marijuana in the ashtray of her car after a consensual search was made. McMillan gave a ride to Chante Price to the State Correctional Institution in Dallas. Before the search began the defendant told police there might be marijuana in the car that be- longed to her sister. She stated that the cigarettes would have red lipstick on them, adding that she does not wear lipstick. Police found two partially smoked ciga- rettes in her ashtray. Truman, the Navy's newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, under construction in Newport News, VA, Master Chief Petty Of- ficer Peter Kennedy, son-in-law of John and Eileen Sichlerof Harveys Lake, has been preparing the mighty ship for sea duty. The ship's crew is undergoing intensive training on the reactor plants and various damage con- trol and firefighting systems. The ship's goal is to deliver to the fleet the best-built carrier and best- trained crew ever, ready to as- sume their full responsibilities when the Truman is commis- sioned in 1998. Anuclear-qualified machinist’s mate, Kennedy leads 10 sailors who operate and maintain steam turbines and reduction gears used for the carrier's propulsion. They are responsible for moni- toring construction progress in the shipyard and inspection of propulsion plant systems prior to ship’s force acceptance and op- eration. A 1978 graduate of Tunkhanaock High School, Kennedy joined the Navy that MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER PETER KENNEDY same year. Married to the former Annette Sichler, with two sons, Peter, 9 and lan, 5, Kennedy said he plans to make the Navy a career. He also said he's benefitted person- ally as well as professionally from his Navy experiences. OBITUARIES MARIAN BEUKA Marian Beuka, 88, of Sweet Valley, Ross Township, died Jan. 5, 1997, at her home. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Mullin. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Metropolitan Print- ing, Queens, NY. She resided in Sweet Valley for the past 23 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth, Lehman Township; Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary; and the Dallas Senior Citizens’ Center. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Beuka and brothers, James, Frank and Wil- ‘liam. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, John L.; sisters, Ruth Byrne, Sweet Valley; Margaret Moldavak, Court Pleasanton, CA; several nieces and nephews. Rebennack 101, for- merly of Loyalville, Lake Town- ship, died Dec. 30, 1996, at Wesley Village, Inkerman, Jenkins Town- ship. Born in Meeker, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Debbie Bronson Wolfe. She attended Lehman schools and graduated from Wyoming Seminary. She was employed as a dietitician at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia. In association with her late husband, John, she operated Rebennack’s Berry Farm, Loyalville, for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shavertown. She was a charter member and past matron of Dallas Chapter 396 Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carrie Wolfe. Surviving are daughters, Debbie Ostrovsky, Hastings, NY; Betty Hibler, Truth or Conse- quences. Chicory House to hold fiddle contest January 19 The Chicory House in Wilkes- Barre invites intermediate to ad- vanced fiddlers to compete for cash prizes in its fourth annual “Beat the January Blues” Musicians Contest. The annual competi- tions, which began in 1994, have featured fingerstyle and flatpicking guitar contests in the past. This year, the Chicory House's all-volunteer group of music pre- senters will highlight the skills of fiddlers from the region and be- yond. The contest will be held Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. in the community room of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 35 South Franklin St., in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
