Mr. Jack Flynn will assume the duties of Vice Commodore for the coming year. Members and guests began the evening with a cocktail reception followed by dinner and dancing. Hospice St. John honors volunteers Hospice Saint John took time out last week to celebrate and affirm the contributions of its many volunteers. The volunteers were feted at a special breakfast gathering attended by staff, in- cluding Carolee Holmes, Wilkes- Barre Area Director. Holmes thanked the volunteers on behalf of the many terminally ill patients and family members cared for during the past year. The breakfast was held at the Mark II Restaurant, Kidder Street, Wilkes-Barre. Hospice Saint John's skilled volunteers, through Hospice Saint John offices serving the Greater Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Hazleton areas, provide many vi- tal services including: patient care, feeding, transportation and emo- tional support. Hospice Saint John, a program of Lutheran Welfare Service of Northeastern Pennsylvania, is the oldest operating hospice in North- eastern Peninsylvania and for 17 years has been serving the needs of the terminally ill and their fami- lies. Pelak enlists in Air Force Matthew R. Pelak, son of Richard and Barbara Pelak of Dallas and Edmund Keiper, son of Debra Piper of Hunlock Creek, enlisted in the Air Force recently. Upon graduation from a six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas, Pelak will receive technical training as a aircraft armament systems apprentice, while Piper will attend training in aircraft electronics and environmental systems. Stahl in basic training Army Pvt. Jason I. Stahl, has begun basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, GA. During the training, he will receive instruction in drill and ceremo- nies, map reading, tactics, military customs and courtesies, and first aid. He will develop basic combat skills, and experience using various weapons available to the infantry soldier. Stahl is the son of Carol Arnold of Harveys Lake. He is a 1996 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School. Kelley on duty in South Korea Air Force Tech. Sgt. John T. Kelley has arrived for duty at Kunsan Air Base, Kunsan City, South Korea. Kelley, a medical readiness flight supervisor, is the son of John P. and Mary Nancy Kelly of Trucksville. His wife, Julianna, is the daughter of Don and Patty Dills of Camas, Washington. BACK MOUNTAIN BRIEFS VNA hospice seeks volunteers Hospice Care of VNA is seeking volunteers to join its hospice teath, which offers supportive medical, social, spiritual and volunteer service to terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice volunteers can have direct patient and family involvement, work at the Inpatient Unit at the Heritage House or provide clerical and office assistance.
