VNA flu vaccine not recalled
The Visiting Nurse Association/Home-Health Services wishes to
inform the public that flu shots given at their 1996 flu clinics are not
part of the nationwide vaccine recall. Concerns regarding flu vaccine
effectiveness have been raised after media reports of weak vaccines.
“Flu vaccines are produced by a variety of pharmaceutical companies,”
reports Ann Russin, Director of Home Health Services. “Our flu vaccine
supplier is Wyeth. We have confirmed with Wyeth that it is not involved
in the recall.” Any person with questions may call Tiffany Phillips the
VNA Community Outreach Nurse at 820-7888 Ext. 123.

District's insurance won't pay mercury
spill cleanup costs of near $150,000:
DALLAS - The Dallas School
Board payment of $117,990 to
DATOM Products and the Envi-
ronmental Abatement Associates
for cleaning and monitoring last
month's mercury spill at the high
school. The district still must pay
for the disposal of 54 drums of
contaminated waste, such as car-
pet, chairs and water used for
cleaning. The disposal will cost
between $20,000 and $40,000.
The district's insurance com-
pany will not be able to covet-the
cost of the cleanup because ‘the
spill is not defined as vandalism.
In other business, the board
passed a new 5-year contract for
its support staff, including Jjani-
tors, secretaries and aides.

Dallas Rotary takes kids on
a Christmas shopping spree
Dallas Rotary Club recnetly
took deserving children from Lake-
Lehman and Dallas School Dis-
tricts on their annual shopping
spree at The Bon Ton in Wyoming.
For the past few years McDonald's
in Shavertown has given each
child a full breakfast before the
event starts. Each child is accom-
panied by a Rotarian or Rotary
Ann, as they shop forwarm clothes
and other necessities. Often the
children will ask if they can buy a
gift for their mother, or other fam-
ily member. The management
and staff of The Bon Ton co-oper-
ate in many ways, including a
party and extra gifts from “Santa
Claus.”

Lehman Jackson PTA hosts Santa shop
The Lake-Lehman Jackson Elementary PTA just recently held
one of their very popular holiday programs called “Santa’s Secret _.,
Shop”. A holiday favorite, the PTA members set up a special
workshop where all students, Kindergarten through sixth grade,
had the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their families: an
at very reasonable prices. This is not a fund-raiser and is just
offered as a fun way for busy students to do their holiday
shopping for their family and not have to worry about getting a
ride to the mall.
