May, 55, of RR 1, Noxen, Sorber Mountain, died ~ Nov. 26, 1996, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born July 8, 1941, in Forty Fort, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Agnes Lyons Walton. Prior to her retirement in 1969, she was employed by the former Carpenter's Nursing Home, Har- veys Lake, forl5 years. She lived at Sorber Mountain since 1968. She was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Walton, and a sister Murscel Jean Masterpol. Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Ronald D.; sons, Wilbur H., Hunlock Creek; Ronald D. Jr., Dallas; daughters, Joan M. Croman, Trucksville, Kingston Township; Lori A. May, Harveys Lake; brother, Theodore T. Walton, Orange; sister, Thelma Devens, Courtdale; Agnes Kocher, Beau- mont; Lorraine Yarnell, Trucksville; Joan Kittle, Red Rock; and six grandchildren. Born June 17, 1947 in King- ston, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Mildred Jones Jackson. She was a member of the Noxen United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1276, Tunkhannock. She worked as a bank clerk for 15 years, then worked part-time at local stores whiledoing leather work. She was also involved with the Susquehanna Cherokee Indian Tribe. Surviving are sons, Mark Downs, Hunlock Creek; Grant Downs, West Wyoming; daugh- ters, Sarah Cook, West Wyoming; Lynn Downs, Plymouth; seven grandchildren. Interment, Beaumont Cem- etery. PHILIP RACE Philip Race, 65, of Beaumont, died Nov. 27, 1996, at his home. Born Feb. 5, 1931 in Noxen, he was the son of the late William C. and Matilda G. Crispell Race. Before retiring in 1984, he worked as a carpenter. He attended the Noxen United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1276, Tunkhannock and a retired mem- ber of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Keystone District Coun- cil. Magill, of East Ridge Street, Shavertown, Kingston Township, died Nov. 28, 1996, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospi- tal. Born in Danville, he was the son of the late Arthur and Pearl Nevina Magill. He graduated from Danville High School in 1952. He moved to Dallas in 1952. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Before his retirement in 1990, he was employed as a supermar- ket store manager by IGA Inc. in Dallas for many years. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Plymouth, its bazaar committee, the League of Ukrainian Catho- lics and the Back Mountain Bowl- ing League. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Bernice Elaine Bigus: a brother, Arthur Magill; sisters, Erma Magill, Bernice Zealsdorf, Anna Mary Magill and Jean Faust. Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Dempsey; stepchil- dren, Paul Mahon, Chatham, . She graduated from St. Mary's High School and earned a bach- elor of science degree from New York University, and earned a master's degree from Columbia University. : She served with th U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as aregistered nurse by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York City. She lived in Harveys Lake for 18 years before moving to Dallas in 1993. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, its Altar & Rosary Society, and the Pennsylvania Nurses Association. Surviving is a siser, Dorothy Derr, Dallas; and niece Karen Kerr, Dallas. Interment, Mount Olivet Cem- etery, Carverton, Kingston Town- ship.
