Wednesday, November 27, 1996 7 Meadows honors five- and ten-year volunteers “Volunteers are a Circle of Friends” was the theme of the recent Volunteer Recognition Luncheon of the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, honoring 110 volunteers who contributed 14,105 hours of service to residents this past year. Ten-year volunteers donated a total of 7,928 hours and five-year volunteers 6,981. Christine Hischmann, MS, OTR/L, has been named chair of the occupational therapy depart- ment at College Misericordia. Hischmann, who has served as ‘interim chair since January, 1996, supervises all aspects of the occu- pational therapy department, in- cluding strategic planning and scheduling, faculty hiring, faculty evaluation and budget. Hischmann also is an assis- tant professor of occupational therapy, where she teaches courses in group process, psychosocial intervention, aging process and environmental adap- tation. In addition, she provides oc- cupational therapy services at Clarks Summit State Hospital. Hischmann rejoined the Misericordia faculty in 1994. Pre- viously she had served as an as- professor and coordinatorof fieldwork education from 1982 to 1986. Before returning to Misericordia, Hischmann was the director of occupational therapy at the Danville State Hospital in Danville. She also has served as a occupational therapy consult- ant for Mercy Hospital Wilkes- Barre, Community Medical Cen- ter in Scranton, First Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, and nursing homes. Hischmann, @who holds bachelor's and master's degrees in occupational therapy from Temple University, has received several awards for professional achievement and service from the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association. She has presented numerous papers and workshops across the country. Gross began his career in humane work on Oct. 23, 1971 becoming manager of the SPCA on March 10, 1983. Gross was also elected in Sep- tember to his third term as presi- dent of the Federated Humane Societies of Pennsylvania which he has been a director of since 1983 serving also as treasurer, vice-president and chairman of various animal welfare commit- tees. He was responsible for es- tablishing and co-chairing the first Humane Office Training Program in Pennsylvania which was con- ducted by the federation for six years prior to a state mandated Humane Society Police Officer Training Program (ACT 135) con- ducted by the University of Mis- souri and Penn State University this year, Gross completed. the course last month. Gross, his wife Lynda, and two children Jennifer and Michael re- side in Dallas.
