10 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 20, 1996 Basketball State champs (continued from page 9) guys make me smile when I'm out there playing," admitted Adrienne Miroslaw. “They're great fans, they really motivated us,” added senior Mary Brislin. Brislin, one of the team's de- fensive leaders, noted several high- lights from this season. “First, that Coughlin game was the best thing that ever happened to us. We played terrible and it woke us up. Next, it was great to be just the third team at Lake-Lehman to tie Crestwood. Playing at the Lack- awanna Stadium was awesome. Also, beating Lackawanna Trail twice was nice because they are one of the best teams around.” Mary also made note of a ninth- grade bundle of raw nerves and enthusiasm better known to her teammates as Janelle Perlis. “She is amazing, she is just so fast out there. Janelle gets so excited it was fun to watch her react to everything.” Coach Lipski believes the speedy [rosh played a huge role in the Gwynned Mercy title game. At one point, when the score was still 0-0, Janelle got the ball and took off like a rocket toward the goal and took a beautiful shot that just missed. “I think that shook them (Gwynned Mercy) up,” Lipski said. Debbie White also enjoyed watching the freshman experience everything. "At first she was really quiet around us (the varsity), then we started busting on her and she loosened up. She just gets so excited, she looks at us with those big eyes. I'm jealous of her be- cause she has three more years of this." That's another thing that all the girls said, they were really sorry that the season was over. According lo Lipski, as soon as the team got home from states, they wanted to practice. “They said they wanted to practice to keep getting better. They just don't want this season end.” Can you blame them? A few players whose seasons aren't over yel are: Kacy Ziomek, Adrienne Miroslaw, Jen Johnstone, Sara Kasper and Debbie White.
