Reap earns Lions scholarship The Dallas Lions Club recently honored John Reap, Shavertown, a senior honor student at Bishop O'Reilly High School with its an- nual Book Scholarship. Reap was a member of the Honor Society, graduating third in his class. He was also the recipient of the John P. Foley Award for Academic Excellence, presented annually by the bishop. He was also a member of the Wilkes-Barre Junior Leadership and its advisory council, Glee Club and stage crew, and won state awards for four years in the Penn- sylvania Junior Academy of Sci- ence. In his junior year he was one of 30 high school students from Luzerne County to attend the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Business Program sponsored by Toyota at Susquehanna Univer- sity. During his senior year he was namd O'Reilly student of the month. Reap is presently attending Lafayette College majoring in en- gineering. College Misericordia holds food drive In an effort to support the Back Mountain Food Bank, members of College Misericordia’s Campus Ministry will hold a Food Drive on campus, requesting donations of non-perishable foods. The drive, which is an annual event, began Nov. 1 and will continue until Nov. 22. Dallas schools plan panel for parents November 19 The administration and guid- ance staff of the Dallas Senior High and Middle School will present a panel discussion on Nov. 19, from 7-9 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. The program will focus on strategies dealing with drug/alcohol abuse, suicide prevention, and an awareness of occult activities in our commu- nity. The presenters will give a brief background on the issues and offer suggestions to parents on how to recognize if their child is at risk. A question and answer pe- riod will follow. The panel will include Stefanie Wolownik and Cammie Anderson, Wyoming Valley Drug & Alcohol; District Attorney Peter Paul Olszewski and Detective Gary Sworen, District Attorney's office; and Dr. Jeffrey Fremont, Ph.D., psychologist, and Jeff Reese, case worker, Children’s Service Cen- ter. Kersey assists with College Board’s exam Misericordia plans trip to Met The College Misericordia Alumni Association will sponsor a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Arts in New York City Dec. 7. The tour led by Dr. Jennie Congleton, assistant professor of fine arts at Misericordia, includes the Christmas display in the Me- dieval Hall. In the afternoon the group will have time for sightseeing and shopping around Rockefeller Center. Included in the $40 cost are bus fare, museum admission, and an introductory lecture on Dec. 4. Dr. Congleton will present the lec- ture from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Col- lege. The bus will depart for New York at 7:30 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 7.
