The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 6, 1996 13 Dallas students see prints of the past The Dallas Middle School science students of Ms. Joan Rakowski were introduced to fossils by experiencing actual paleontological discoveries. Students, working in cooperative groups, were given imitation layers of stone which contained several fossils. The students soaked the stones in water and then used tools to crack the rock, find the fossils, clean and polish them. Students shared their findings, categorized the data, and kept a remembrance of this exciting dig. The culminating event of this activity was to write a science journal entry on being a paleontologist. Pictured are students from section 6-2. From left, kneeling, Amanda Hayes and James Kasiel. Fireman Myers, Fireman Long, and Fireman Coolbaugh talked to the children about Fire Safety. Families were given information concerning the W.H.A.L.E. program, as well as W.H.A.L.E. red checkmark stickers. W.H.A.L.E. stands for “We Have A Little Emergency”. Stickers are placed on Child Car Safety Seats. In the event of an accident, emergency personnel would have the child's name and emergency phone numbers.
