Calabro, 38, of Exeter pled guilty to stealing a child's wooden chair from The Cottage gift shop on Route 309, Dallas in August. Charges of receiving sto- len property, tampering with evi- dence and providing unsworn false testimony were dismissed. Calabro was arrested after Kingston Twp. officer Frank Buck- ler noticed his Blazer parked in front of The Cottage at 5:20 a.m. Aug. 3. Buckler saw the Blazer, with its lights off, leave the store and head north on Rt. 309. He pulled Calabro over and noticed wooden furniture similar to that sold at The Cottage in the back of CHARGED WITH GIVING FALSE REPORT Gerald Earl Miller, 40, Box 90, Harris Hill Rd., Dallas, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of giving a false report to authorities, driving while his li- cense was suspended or revoked and driving an unregistered mo- tor vehicle. A charge of operating a vehicle without a valid inspec- tion sticker was dismissed. Miller was stopped July 4 by Dallas Bor- ough officer James Martin when he was observed driving slowly on Rt. 309. When Martin stopped him, Miller said he didn’t have his license with him, and identified himself as Barry Miller, but said he didn't know his Social Security number. Miller was eventually identified by Kingston Twp. of- ficer Walter Davis. DUI CHARGES The following individuals have been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a con- trolled substance; and have waived theirright toa preliminary hearing: * Daniel F. Buckler's report said it was obvious Calabro had been drinking, and he told the officer that the items had been bought by his wife. Calabro’s wife denied that she had bought the items. Calabro was asked by police to provide receipts for the items and later showed falsified receipts for them. Calabro finally admitted that he had stolen the chair, but had bought other items from someone at a bar he had been drinking at before driving to Dal- las. Calabro was fined $1,000 plus costs of $82 by District Justice James Tupper. test. His blood alcohol level was measured at .189%, above the legal limit of .1%. e Ernest M. Smith, 36, 347 Old Lake Rd., Dallas, was arrested by Officer John Masloski of the Lake Twp. police department, after he was involved in a one-vehicle ac- cident at about 11 p.m Aug. 18. Smith's pickup truck struck a utility pole near the intersection of Church Rd. and School House Rd. After noticing the odor of alco- hol and observing that Smith's speech was slow and slurred, Masloski placed him under ar- rest. He was taken to W-B Gen- eral Hospital by ambulance and refused to take a blood alcohol test, which results in suspension of his driver's license for one year. e Anthony T. Mattick, 48, 65 Brazil St., Wilkes-Barre, was ar- rested by officer M. John Haley of the Lehman Twp. police depart- ment after his car was observed going through a stop sign at Lake Silkworth, then speeding along Rt. 29 July 26, near midnight. After failing field sobriety tests, Mattick was taken to the county processing center where his blood alcohol level was measured by breathalyzer testing at .149%. e John M. Borick, 56, 300 Parkview Circle, Wilkes-Barre, was arrested by Lehman Twp. of- ficer William Purcell after his 1978 Ford Thunderbird was observed driving erratically on Rt. 118 Aug. 4. When he stopped the car, Purcell saw a partially empty bottle of vodka on the seat and smelled alcohol on Borick's breath. Be- " cause Borick uses a cane, and said he had two artificial Rips, Purcell was unable to administer field sobriety tests. Borick became belligerent, according to the re- port, and was taken to the Leh- man Twp. police station, then to W-B General Hospital where he refused to take a blood alcohol test. e Darren James Dixon, 26, RR 3,Box 285-1, Dallas, was charged with driving under the influence disregarding driving on roadways laned for traffic and careless driv- ing. He was observed at about 7 p.m. July 28 by State Trooper ‘ruman Brandt driving on Lake Louise Rd. in Franklin Twp., com- pletely in the westbound lane while traveling east. The trooper said he had to drive off the roadway to avoid a collision with Dixon's pickup truck. Tpr. Brandt stopped the truck and asked Dixon to per- form field sobriety tests, which he failed. Dixon submitted to a blood alcohol test, which found the level at .25%, more than double the maximum allowable limit of . 1%. Dixon was represented at his preliminary hearing by Atty. Michael Melnick. e William Howley, 27, RR 2, Box 202A, Hunlock Creek, was charged with driving under the influence and disregarding a traf- fic lane after he was stopped at about 4 a.m. Aug. 18 by Kingston Twp. officer James Ibbotson when he was observed driving errati- cally along Rt. 309 and on Carverton Rd. After failing field sobriety tests, Howley was taken to W-B General Hospital where his blood alcohol level was mea- sured at .269%. e Sean T. McCormack, 26, Pp. 0. Box 322, Factoryville, was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving. Dallas Bor- ough officer James Martin ‘ob- served McCormack driving errati- cally and speeding on Rt. 309 at about 2 a.m. Aug. 25. Mattin clocked McCormack at 60 mph in a 40 mph zone before Martin was able to pull him over. After failing field sobriety tests, McCormack refused to take a blood alcohol test, resulting in an automatic one-year suspension of his license.
