Cyrus, Jay Tanner, Barry Wood and Mrs. Tigue, principal. Tree of Life donations fund new computer equipment In recent years, many families and friends of Gate of Heaven School have wished to make a lasting contribution to the stu- dents who attend this elementary school. Dr. Jay Tanner, an active school parent working with the Pastoral Board, proposed a “Tree of Life" which would provide funds for a specific project. The Gate of Heaven parents and staff voted to expand computer instruction throughout the school and a com- puter lab was chosen as this project. With the assistance of the late Rev. John Foley, Mrs. Judy Lipski, Mrs.Jeanne Francis and Mr. Tom Amico, the “Tree of Life” was instituted. The Gate of Heaven class of 1994 kicked off the campaign by providing the seed money to ini- tiate this project. The class of 1994, along with their parents, sponsored a linen sale. Profits earned from this sale benefited their class trip as well as initiating the project. Then, families, pa- rishioners and friends made con- tributions to purchase leaves, acorns and foundation stones. At the September 25 Parent/ Teacher Guild meeting, Dr. Tan- ner and Mrs. Lipski presented PTG treasurer, Barry Wood, with acheckin theamount of $15,000. Barry is also chairperson of the Technology Committee that has made recommendations regard- ing technology purchases. The Gate of Heaven Technology Com- mittee, formed in 1995, has been actively involved in assisting the school since it s inception. The “Tree of Life” can be viewed in the lobby of the school and continues to bloom with generous contributions.
