Coming into the game against the winless Mohawks, Lehman coach Rich Gorgone felt that his team hadn't practiced well. “Prac- tice had us concerned all week. We seemed laid back,” Gorgone explained. That lackadaisical attitude might have been the reason be- hind the scoreless first halfof play on Saturday. Unfortunately for Meyers, the Knights, who are now 3-0 in _the conference and 4-1. ‘overall, woke up in the second ‘halfand iced the game in the third . period. All three of Lehman's touch- downs were the results of big plays. On its first possession of the sec- ond half, Lehman marched 88 yards in five plays, the last being a 62-yard jaunt in which Ronczka bounced off the right side and outran the Mohawk defense to the end zone. Ronczka's next score was set up by fullback Kevin Whipple's 50-yard scamper. Ronczka again found room off the right side and raced 62 yards to paydirt to close out the scoring with 2:09 left to play in the third period. Gorgone was proud of his team’s defensive effort, especially in the second half, when the Knights stopped Meyers on fourth down twice deep inside their own terri- tory. “I think we came out to play in the second half, and it showed,” said Gorgone.
