a Uc { 4 Fall Sports Preview Mountaineers (continued from page 2) cautious Jackson noted. “If they start to play well together, then we feel that we have the backs to get the job done.” The Mountaineers do have some key returning personnel. Valvano and Townsend, along with other seniors split end/defensive back Brian Pietraccini (6'2", 220), tight end/linebacker Mark Kashenbach (6'3", 220) and quar- terback/safety Billy Puchalsky (5'11", 170), make up the group of veteran players that Jackson ex- pects to perform well. For Billy Puchalsky, the days of playing backup to quarterback Ted Jackson, Jr. are over. Jack- son Jr.'s graduation allows Puchalsky to finally take the reins as Dallas’ field general. Coach Jackson voiced his confidence in Puchalsky stating, “Billy is a con- sistent quarterback who can run and throw. He played a little for us last year as a backup, and we expect him to do well for us this year.” With consistent play from his quarterback, big holes from his offensive line and powerful run- ning from his backs, Jackson may soon see what he calls his “cau- tious optimism” become fulfilled expectations. On the defensive side of the ball, expect Dallas to be equally strong with Hazeltine and Perkoski at tackies, Townsend and Lenny Dorrance (6'4", 225) at defensive ends, Kohli and Kashenbach at inside linebackers, and Valvano and Dennis Wengrzynek at out- side linebackers. Dallas is known for its hard- hitting secondary, and this year should be no exception. Cornerbacks Brian Pietraccini, Kevin Kozel (5'10", 170), and Eric The Dallas Post & September 4, 1996 - Jancik (5'10", 150), along with safety Puchalsky will all come up and hit you. Jackson's game plan will re- main mostly the same as in past years, but why fix something that isn't broken. “Offensively, we'll try to mix it up a little with mul- tiple formations, some wing-T and some ‘I' backfields. On defense, we'll stay in our 4-4 and be ready to hit,” Jackson said. # Name 3 Brian Petraccini 5 Frank Valvano 7 Kevin Kozel 8 Mark Kashenbach 9 Rick Lorah 10 Matt Jackson 11 Billy Puchalsky 14 Matt Barnard 15 Billy Plasta 21 Jerry Delescavage 22 Paul Onzik 23 Eric Jancik 24 Matt Acri 25 Ron Selenski 26 Brian McDonald 27 Jeff Suponcic 31 Eric White 32 Jim Krispin 33 Fran Brown 35 Dennis Wengrzynek 43 Billy Duda 52 Jason Nutche 54 Brad Kohli 55 Matt Gingo 56 Mike Schiavone 60 Rick Macri 61 Blake Bicking, 62 Jason Henry 63 Mike Ferko 65 Gerry Sgroi 67 Jake Lanyon 68 Joe Stuppino 70 Lenny Dorrance 72 Harry Hazeltine 73 Gary Youngblood 74 Bryan Banks 77 Frank Perkoski 78 Scott Townsend 80 Jon Saba 81 Jeff Beisel 86 Joe Kukosky 88 Chris Tucker 89 Jesse Yarnal John McNeil, Pat Patte Head coach: Ted Jackson. 1996 DALLAS MOUNTAINEERS Position Ht. Black Knights (continued from page 3) be right there in contention like always. G.A.R. will be tough, too.” Consistency might be a key term in the Black Knights’ playbook. Gorgone said, “I be- lieve that we have to be very bal- anced. We have to be able to run and pass equally well in order to mix up our playcalling effectively. The key for us is going to be up front. The play of the offensive and defensive line is really impor- tant. If they can get the job done, we feel that we have some good kids at the skill positions that can score.” Playing in one of the toughest conferences in the state can be difficult at times, but Gorgone has established a tradition at Lake-Lehman in which the team prides itself in always being in contention. “We always shoot to win it all; that's always the goal. We've lost some good players, but don't un- derestimate what this group of kids can accomplish.” Want a photo that has appeared in The Dallas Post? Fall Sports Preview The Dallas Post N Sgptember 4, fo06™ ) Graduation took stars, but more step up By VITO QUAGLIA Sports Writer Lake-Lehman Field Hockey coachJean Lipski begins her 14th year with high expectations. Last year’s squad finished third in the state, and with the help of some key returning performers, this year’s team hopes to continue the success. “We lost 10 seniors including Jonelle Elgaway, Cathy Dymond, Erin Edwards and Beth Turner. They were some outstanding play- ers,” Lipski said. Lehman defi- nitely lost some talent, but the team is still laden with stellar players. Lipski will look to senior links Kacy Ziomek, Debbie White and Adrienne Miroslaw to control the tempo of the game, both defen- sively and offensively. “Those girls, along with some others, definitely have the talent to play at the Division I level.” ~ The other players who Lipski speaks especially highly of are: senior center halfback Mary Brislin who will anchor the de- fense; junior forward Sara Casper, who tied as the top scorer in the league last year; and sophomore forward Jen Johnstone, who Baseball...basketball...football. Other players to watch are, on defense, seniors Jeanette Thrash, Erin Snell, and Amanda Shission; goalies Joanne White and Colby Smith; and Erica Hodick, Lauren Jones and Tiffany VanScoy. Lipski says that Crestwood is always the team to beat. “They have such a winning tradition up there, you know they'll always be in contention for the champion- ship.” Also, the Lehman mentor named Wyoming Seminary and Wallenpaupack as tough oppo- nents. Last, but not least, there is other the Back Mountain team. “Dallas is always a rivalry. re- gardless of the talent level or records of either team, the players always get up for that game.” With a strong nucleus of play- ers on her team, coach Lipski has good reason to have high expecta- tions. And with some scoring and good defense, maybe this year’s team could equal last year's suc- cess, or even achieve more... insurance for players, managers, coaches, and others. Call us today.
