Music Box will stage Once Upon Once upon a time in a far-away kingdom (especially suited for musical comedy) lived a prince who wished to marry a princess, but only if she could pass the nasty queen's impossible test of sensitivity: to stay awake on top of 20 soft, downy mattresses with a tiny pea stuck underneath. The hilarious spoof of the children’s classic, “The Princess and the Pea”, is now called Once Upon A Mattress, and this delight- ful musical will be presented at The Music Box Dinner Playhouse, 196 Hughes St., Swoyersville. The show opens September 6, with performances September 7, 8, 12- 15, 19-22 and 26-28. Cast in the leading role as the hopeful Princess Winifred The Woebegone is Ellen O'Brien. Her hopeful but hapless prince is played by John Owen Kennedy; his overbearing mother, The Queen, is played by Evelyn Tomasovic and the henpecked, silent King is played by Lee Tho- mas. Performance times are: Thurs- a Mattress day through Saturdays, curtain at 8 p.m. with Cash Bar opening at 6 p.m. and a buffet dinner serving from 6:30 p.m. At Sunday matinees, the bar opens at 1:30 p.m., buffet at 2 p.m. and curtain is at 3:15 p.m. The buffet in- cludes entrees of roast beef, chicken, fish and a pasta dish, complemented by side dishes of potatoes, vegetables, a salad bar and various desserts.
