Young artists from area junior and senior high schools entered their best work in the competi- tion, hoping it would be chosen from among almost a thousand entries this year. The show remains open through March 31 at the MacDonald Art Gallery at Col- lege Misericordia. It is free and open to the public. This marks the 19th year that the Women's Club has given a ‘book scholarship, as part of the group's commitment to furthering the education of children in the Back Mountain. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, scholastic ‘achievement, school activities, and community involvement. Stitzer Memorial Spelling Bee was recently held at the Dallas Middle School. The Bee is held to honor the memory of Jane M. Stitzer, a former middle school art department member. The winner was Nicholas Lopuhovsky an eighth grade student. He outlasted 24 other participants from grades six, seven and eight. Nick is the son of Mr. and Joseph Lophovsky of Dallas. Exploring chemical reactions Recently Dallas Middle School students attended an assembly on chemical reactions, given by Matthew Kriebel from the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia. The assembly was funded from monies raised, by the students, during the annual magazine campaign. Attending were: Rebecca Hadzor, Jessica Fields, Matthew Kriebel, Patrick Barnard and John Isaac.
