Born Sept. 10, 1915, in Wilkes- Barre, he was the son of the late Maurice and Sarah Muir Row- lands. He attended Wilkes-Barre schools and was a U.S. Navy vet- eran of World War II. He was employed as a truck driver for 37 years by Railway Express Agency, retiring in 1975. He resided most of his life in Wilkes-Barre. In later years, he resided in Lake Carey, Port St. Lucie, FL. and Dallas. He was a member and former vice general chairman of the Un- ion of Railway and Steamship Clerks. He was a member of the Veter- ans of Foreign Wars Post 3583 and the American Legion. He was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Zimmerman; stepbrother, William T. Jones; stepsister, Jennie Roberts. Elliott, 75, of Valley View the Caldwell Consistory, Park, Dallas, died Dec. 23, 1995, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hos- pital. Born May 1, 1920, in Coaldale, he was a son of the late James W. and Maude Irene Johnson Elliott. He was a graduate of Coaldale High School. He was also a 1951 graduate of the Philadelphia Col- lege of Pharmacy, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. He was a registered pharma- cist for more than 40 years. In 1951, he started his career at Hall's Pharmacy, Shavertown. He later became a partner in the operation of Hall's Pharmacy. In 1976, he joined the Rite Aid Phar- macy Corp. and was employed at the Tunkhannock Rite Aid Phar- macy. During World War II, he served as a surgical technician with the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the George M. Dallas Masonic Lodge, Dallas; Bloomsburg; the Dallas Ameri- can Legion; [rem Temple, Wilkes- ‘Barre; where he was an active member of its Shepherd Unit for many years. He was an active member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, John. Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Marian Elliott; daughter, Laura Grosvenor, Gibson; sons, James, West Pittston; John, Hazle- ton; 14 grandchildren. Reese, 99, of Fran- klin Street, Dallas, died Dec. 22, 1995, at Meadows Nursing Cen- ter, Dallas. Born in Dorranceton, he was the son of the late John M. and Catherine Lewis Reese. He attended Lehman Township and Dallas schools and was a resident of Dallas for the past 94 years. He was an outstanding base- ball player, bowler, golfer and farmer dancer during his youth. He was a member of the Dallas United Methodist Church and the Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dallas. Before retiring in 1971, he was the proprietor of Glenview Coal Supply. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Priscilla Brace, in 1932; his second wife, the former Anna Ralston, 1967; his third wife, the former Margie Moss, in 1993; a son, Lewis J., in 1977; a great-granddaughter, Wendy Reese, in 1993. L] FRIEDA SCHALM Frieda Schalm, 78, of Dallas and Boca Raton, FL, died Dec. 20, 1995, at the Wilkes-Barre Gen- eral Hospital. Born March 17, 1917, in Ger- many, she was the daughter of the late John and Caroline Schultz. She and her family moved to New York City when she was young. Since 1936, she had re- sided in Forty Fort and Harveys Lake. She was a member of the Irem Temple Women's Auxiliary and a long-time member of its golf asso- ciation. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Boca Del Mar! Country Club and its Women's Golf Association. She was very active with the Boca Raton Com- munity Hospital Auxiliary. She was a past officer of the West Side Women's Club in King- ston and Forty Fort, and was an active member of the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital Woman's Aux- iliary for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul. Surviving are her daughter, Carole Schalm Ertley, Dallas; sons, Robert H. Schalm, Dallas; PauldJ. Schalm, Boca Raton; nine grandchildren; one great-grand- son; a brother, John Schultz Jr., Bonita Springs, FL; one niece and one nephew. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. on Dec. 29in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 35 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. A. Murray Goodwin, interim pastor of the church and the Rev.
