~-10 The Dallas Post Dallas, PA Wednesday, November 15, 1995 Knights (continued from page 9) Joe Spencer got the call on the sixth play. The fullback ran be- tween his left guard and tackle and took the ball in untouched. The extra point was good and Wyoming led 7-0 with nine min- utes remaining in the half. Both coaches knew the win- ning team would more than likely make the fewest mistakes. Costly mistakes that is. The Black Knights were penalized just once for sixyards, Wyoming three times for 25 yards. Neither quarterback was intercepted. Wyoming only coughed up the ball once, but Lehman fumbled twice including a critical non-exchange with 1:34 remaining. With 7:26 left in the contest a determined Lehman squad took over on their own 18-yard line. On first down John Oliver passed to wide receiver Chris Bath for a 14 yard gain. Lehman was in business. In 14 plays the Knights worked the clock and took the ball all the way down inside the four- yard line. On the 15th play, sec- ond and goal, it happened. Or make that didn't happen. Tail- back Mike Pitcavage never got control of Oliver's handoff which was recovered by Wyoming. “It was just an off tackle play,” Gorgone said. “I thought we had it pretty well sealed.” Each team only had the ball two times in the second half. Wyoming put together a couple of time consuming drives in which they dominated play at the line of scrimmage. The Warrior backs continuously rumbled into the secondary as safety Mike Woronko made the majority of tackles in the second half. “We were just trying to slow them down," said Gorgone. “That's their game. They have three or four big backs that they can just rotate.” Lehman took the ball 53 yards on its only drive of the third quar- ter, but that too ended with a fumble. Pitcavage picked up sevenyards on first down before Adamshick found a hole up the middle and sprinted for 40 more. Pitcavage went off tackle left for six again, but came down at an angle as he tried changing directions and lost the ball to Wyoming. “Wyoming made the plays and scored, we didn’t,” Gorgone said. “We had opportunities.” Lehman also missed a chance to get on the scoreboard just be- fore halftime. Inside linebacker Angelo DeCesaris pounced on a fumble at the Wyoming 36 with 43 seconds remaining. The eight play, 25-yard drive ended with a field goal attempt by Oliver. The senior’'s attempt at a 28-yarder just missed to the left. “It looked good from where I was standing,” said Gorgone. “I'm very proud of these kids. The seniors had some big wins for us over the years, and we played a lot of underclassmen today. It was just a good bunch of kids that really came together and have a lot to be proud of.” : Wyoming will play Dunmore for the District 2 title this Satur- day. Lehman finishes at 8-3. Pitcavage finished the game with 94 yards rushing and over 3,000 for his career. Adamshick added 53 yards on eight carries. The two-point conver- sion was no good as Scott Townsend stuffed Forgione with help from Lombardo and Joe Noon. One series later junior defen- sive halfback Kevin Kozel picked off a Gallagher pass at the 13- yard line. On second down, Jackson displayed his ability to run long as well with a 78-yard touchdown jaunt down the right ter, but Dallas made another great defensive play on the two-point conversion when Noon sacked the Bucks signal caller for a loss of 11-yards. Gallagher rushed for 181 yards to lead Dunmore. Valvano, the leading rusher in Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference, fin- ished with 96 yards. Jackson was 7 of 19 passing with one interception and rushed for 80 yards. Kozel caught three sideline. Jeff Kunkle added the extra point to put Dallas on top 15-6.
