The musical score from the origi- nal ballet was composed by the late Rosendo Santos, a Wilkes Univer- sity professor of music for more than 20 years before his death in November 1994. It was Santos’ last musical score. He also had served as music director for the Shaver- town United Methodist Choir for several years. Proceeds from the debut per- formances of the ballet will benefit the Rosendo Santos Music Schol- arship being set up at Wilkes Uni- versity for music majors specializ- ing in theory and composition. Santos’ three sons, all musi- cians, will perform with the orch- estrea for “Melinda’s Masquerade.” Indiana University professor of music Erik will conduct; Nathan, a 1992 Wilkes graduate will play the string bass; and Jason, a 1995 Wilkes music graduate, will play the guitar and percussion instru- ments. The story for Melinda's Masquer- ade was written by Barbara Woronko Anzalone. She is the owner and director of the North- eastern Pennsylvania Academy of Dancing, Edwardsville. Approxi- mately 35 of Anzalone’s students will dance in the performances. The ballet is about Melinda, a young girl who comes from a poor family, and her guardian angel. Melinda wants to be a dancer and is invited by a ballet company to a masquerade ball where she audi- tions for the troupe. Beth Hart- shorne, daughter of Reverend and BETH HARTSHORNE Mrs. Don Hartshorne of Dallas, will play the lead dancer in the ballet.
