He was a graduate of Lake- Lehman High School and was JIM KERN Jim Kern, 65, of Valley View Park, Dallas, died Aug. 23, 1995, in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes- Barre. Born in Beaumont, he was the son of the late Edwin and Marion Whipple Kern. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Sergeant First Class after 20 years of service. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Meritorius Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and two Overseas Bars. After his retirment, from the Army, he owned and operated Jimi’'s Restaurant in Dallas for eight years, retiring in 1981.
