[} 5 ) ® [1 ] L] J [] L] ] [ L] 1) 5 | L] ] % L] L] L] § L] L] - Correctional Institution at Dallas (SCID), waived his right to a pre- liminary trial August 17 before District Magistrate James Tupper on a charge of possession of a . controlled substance. ~~ According to court records, SCID corrections officers Jeff Oncay and John Robaczewski found a plastic flove fingertip containing two glassine packets : of marijuana during a routine cell search March 6. - Johnson told SSCID Lt. Donald Jones he had found the mari- juana in the exercise yard near the basketball court. - Johnson was represented by public defender Leonard Omol- ecki, Jr. : Ea a fingertips filled with a white pow- der, which the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab determined to be cocaine. During the search, Black rushed at Robaczewski and tried to leave the cell. Both corrections officers wrestled Black to the floor. Robaczewski's head was banged on the metal bed frame, while Stepanski’s glasses were broken. Black was sentenced to 15 to 30 days in prison, to be served consecutively with his present incarceration. He was represented by public defender Leonard Omolecki, Jr. ! RAPE CHARGES WITHDRAWN, OTHER CHARGES STICK Felony charges of forcible rape against Brian A. Hosey of Harveys Lake were dismissed and two misdemeanor charges of indecent assault were forwarded to trial at a preliminary hearing August 18 before District Magistrate James Tupper. The charges resulted from an incident in which Hosey allegedly forced a woman to come into his trailer home and forced her to have sex after telling her he would give her a ride to her home. The rape charges were with- drawn in an agreement, Tupper said. hh §il Hosey was represented by at- torney Gerald Wassil. The arrest- ing officer was patrolman Scott Davis. INMATE TO FACE TRIAL FOR BREAKING JAW Charges of assault and harass- ment against Frank Stanton Tuohey, an inmate of C Block at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas (SCID), were sent to Luzerne County Court after a preliminary hearing August 17 before District Magistrate James Tupper. A related felony assault charge was dismissed, according to court records. The charges resulted from an incidentJune 17 in which Tuohey allegedly attacked fellow inmate Daniel Edward Bidwell, who had been sitting on a picnic bench watching a chess match in C Block's day room. Tuohey allegedly hit Bidwell twice with his fist, causing a lac- eration of Bidwell's right eyebrow and a fracture to theleft side of his jaw. Tuohey allegedly continued to hit Bidwell with both fists about the head, arms and face. Bidwell was treated for his in- juries at the Wilkes-Barre Gen- eral Hospital. Tuohey was represented by public defender Leonard Omolicki, Jr. ASSAULT CHARGES DISMISSED Charges of assault against Angela Thomas and Kevin Alla- buagh of Shavertown were dis- missed at a preliminary hearing August 17 before District Magis- trate James Tupper. The charges resulted from a domestic dispute. Both parties pled guilty to harrassment. Each paid a $150 fine plus court costs. Road bids are opened, tabled JACKSON TOWNSHIP - The supervisors opened bids for drain- age work on Salansky and Pine Tree roads and tabled them for further study. Apparent low bid- der was Stella Excavating, at $5,345 for Pine Tree Road and $1,245 for Salansky Road. Other bids were submitted by American Asphalt and R. N. Fitch and Sons. The supervisors unanimously approved the purchase of an oil furnace for the apartment over the equipment garage for $2,796 from Newco Heating. The supervisors also unani- mously passed a resolution rec- ognizing the Jackson Township Fire Company as its designated rescue unit, for insurance pur- poses. According to Jackson Town- ship police, two equine escapees were apprehended August 20, one at 6 a.m. and one at 9 a.m. Three officers chased the horses, owned by Dr. Dombroski of Follies Road, and caught them on Huntsville Road in Shaver- town, where one had taken refuge in a garden in the back yard of the Yascur residence. Patrolman Scott Ravert, as- sisted by police chief Donald Jones and an officer from Lehman Town- ship, apprehended the horses and remanded them to the custody of their owner. “Fingerprinting them was the hardest part,” joked assistant police chief Jerry Leedock. FIVE CARS INVOLVED IN ° TWO ACCIDENTS AT SAME LOCATION According to Kingston Town- ship police, a 1985 Fort Thunder- bird operated by Lori Zlotnicki, 21, of Edwardsville, was involved in arear-end accident with a 1988 Cadillac operated by Helen Sher- knsas, 52 of Wapwallopen at Route 309 and Carverton Road August 19 shortly after 4 p.m. Police said the both vehicles were traveling north and had stopped for the traffic light at Carverton Road. The Zlotnicki vehicle pulled forward when the light turned green, then began to buck and stall. It stopped and was hit in the rear end by the Sherksnas vehicle. No injuries were reported to police. While stopped for the two-car accident, three other cars travel- ing north on Route 309 at the Carverton Road intersection were involved in a second rear-end accident, police said. A late model Volvo operated by Simon Becker, 47, of Dallas, struck the rear end of a 1994 Toyota operated by Peggy South- ern, 28, of Skaneateles, NY, push- ing it into the rear end of a 1987 Pontiac Grand AM operated by Eric Williams, 21, of Scranton, which had stopped for the first accident. Julie Becker, 24, of Dallas, a passenger in the Becker vehicle, was thrown into the windshield and transported by the Kingston Township ambulance to the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where she was treated and re- leased. Patrolman Wade Curtis inves- tigated both accidents. PEDESTRIAN HIT BY CAR According to Dallas Township a N town, was involved in an accident with a pedestrian August 16 shortly after 9:15 a.m. Police said Brown was driving south on Route 309 near the Ferguson Ave. intersection in the right lane when he saw Cecelia Steinard, 74, of Dallas, walking across the highway from the opposite side. He told police hg tried to stop but she walked into the side of his van. : Steinard was taken by the Dallas ambulance to the Wilkes- Barre General Hospital, where she left the emergency room before she could be treated. Patrolman Elliot Ide investi- gated the incident. O DRIVER IN 2 ACCIDENTS IN TWO MUNICIPALITIES According to Dallas Township and Kingston Township police, a 1979 Dodge van owned by Robert Shotwell, 25, of Shavertown, and operated by Rodney Joel Samson, 27, of Shavertown, was involved in two accidents August 17 be, 3 tween 9 and 10 p.m. # Police said the Samson vehicle was traveling north on Manor Drive when it sideswiped the driver's side of a 1985 Plymouth Grand Fury operated by Ray E. Burd, 44, of Kingston Township, which had been traveling south. After Burd turned his car around and began to follow Samson, Samson slowed his van down an¢ J pulled to the right of the road neai’ the intersection with Mount. Ol- ivet Road. The Samson vehicle then side- swiped the passenger side of Burd's vehicle and headed down Crispin Road to Church Road, police said. Samson then ran a stop sign at the intersection of Church and Ransom roads and struck a stone embankment. Samson was taken by helicop- ter to Community Medical Center in Scranton, where he was’ re- leased August 20, according to a hospital spokesperson. Police cited Samson twice for driving without a valid operator's license and hit and run. He was also cited for driving on the wrong =~ side of the roadway and running a stop sign.
