Barbecue, auction this weekend at Centermoreland The 40th Annual Barbecue and Auction of the Centermoreland United Methodist Church, as- sisted by the Dymond Hollow Methodist Church, will be held on the church grounds August 11 and 12. The chicken barbecue dinner will be featured both evenings from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Both adult and children’s dinners are avail- able and tickets may be purchased at the dinner. Many homemade baked goods, crafts, flowers and a small goods stand will also be available. Entertainment will be featured each night at 6 p.m. Friday night will feature “The Precious Gems”, a puppet troupe from West Pittston which shares stories of true-to-life situations for family values and morals through dramatic or humorous skits and music. Immediately following The Pre- cious Gems, the ventriloquist team of Susan Klein and Austin Pine from Nanticoke will share a mes- sage of morals and values filled with fun-filled antics. Entertainment for Saturday night at 6 p.m. will be The HIS Quartet, a men's gospel quartet from Wilkes-Barre which com- bines a unique blend of old time DISTRICT COURT BRIEFS Man faces trial on threat ing terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct filed against Dwight Derhammer, 38, of Valley View Trailer Park were sent to Luzerne County court after a preliminary hearing August 3 before District Maigstrate James Tupper. Related felony charges of ag- gravated assault and simple as- sault were dismissed, according to court records. The charges resulted from an incident July 1, investigated by Dallas Township patrolman Brian Feeney, in which Feeney was dis- patched to Derhammer’s home twice within 90 minutes because of a complaint of loud noise. The second time Feeney went tc the house, Derhammer alleg- D.UL CASES SENT TO COUNTY COURT ~ Charges of D.U.I. (driving while under the influence) against the following defendants were sent to Luzerne County court after pre- liminary hearings before District Magistrate James Tupper: e Eric Drouse, 38, of Pittston, ~ who waived his right to a prelimi- nary hearing. He was also cited for careless driving and driving with a suspended license. e was arrested by Kingston Township patrolman Charles Rauschkolb and is free on $300 bail. A blood test found Drouse’s blood alcohol level to be .198, nearly twice the legal limit of . 10. e Ralph E. Temarantz, 43, of Dallas, who waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He was ar- rested by Dallas Borough patrol- man William Norris and is free on $300 bail. e John W. Ronca, 29, of Sha- wanese, who was arrested by Dallas Borough patrolman James Martin and is free on $300 bail, according to court records. He was cited for running a stop sign at East Center Hill Road and Lake Street and charged with possession of drug paraphenalia to kill two police officers 4x Misdemeanor charges of mak- edly threatened to kill Feeney and Kingston Township patrolmen James Ibbotson and Frank Ziegler with a four-foot long, three- pronged hoe. During the confrontation Ib- botson sprayed Derhammer with red pepper spray in self-defense, believing that Derhammer would carry out his threats. The three officers arrested and handcuffed Derhammer after he refused to comply with instruc- tions to lie flat on the ground to be handcuffed. Derhammer’s bail was reduced from $25,000 to $10,000. He is presently lodged in the Luzerne County Prison and was repre- sented by public denfender Jon- athan Blum. after police found a gold and wooden bowl with residue under the passenger's seat of his car. A citation for exceeding the posted speed limit was dismissed. A blood test showed his blood alcohol level to be .14 and tested . positive for cannabinoids, a com- ponent of marijuana. B.U.L. CHARGED Wilkes-Barre resident Robert James Kelly pled guilty toa charge ..of operating a boat. while under the influence and was fined $300 plus $94 restitution and $81 costs at a hearing July 31 before Dis- trict Magistrate James Tupper. A summary charge of violating Fish and Boat Commission rules was dismissed, according to court records. The charges resulted from an incident in which Waterways Conservation Officers Paul Grimes and James Stout observed Kelly moor his 17' Larson to a dock owned by the Fish Commission at Harveys Lake. When Grimes told Kelly to move the boat, he smelled alcohol on Kelly's breath. Kelly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for boating while under the influence. He was rep- resented by attorney Mark Mack. GUILTY PLEATO DISORDERLY CONDUCT, PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS Kimberly Edwards, 28, of Larksville pled guilty to charges of public drunkenness and disor- derly conduct at a preliminary hearing July 29 before District Magistrate James Tupper. Related charges of criminal trespass, harassment/stalking and disorderly conduct using obscene language were dismissed, according to court records. The charges resulted from an incident at the Lake Silkworth Fire Company's bazaar, in which Edwards complained to Lehman Township patrolman Martin Maransky that the bar had stopped serving her. After Maran- sky told her several times to avoid the bar area, Edwards used pro- fanity and attempted to return to the bar. When Marasnky escorted her from the bazaar, she repeatedly screamed obscenities and threw herself to the ground until Maran- sky and Jackson Township pa- trolman Kittle carried her to the police cruiser and tried to hand- cuff her. She continued to kick and fight the officers, threatening to kill and sue them. She will pay a total of $75 in fines plus court costs. WOMAN ACCUSED OF MAKING FALSE REPORTS Donna Corvey, 26; of Harveys Lake, waived her right to a pre- liminary hearing before District Magistrate James Tupper August 3 on misdemeanor charges of making false reports to police. According to court records, the charges resulted from an incident investigated by Kingston Town- ship patrolman Walter Davis, in which Corvey accused Charles Anderson of leaving life-threaten- ing notes on her car and the door of her apartment. An analysis of the letters and handwriting samples by a Penn- sylvania State Police handwriting expertdetermined that Corvey had written the notes herself. Represented by public defender Jonathan Blum, Corvey is free on $300 bail. POSSESSION OF STOLEN LICENSE PLATE CHARGE Charges of receiving stolen property, fraudulent use of a li- cense plate, driving an unregis- tered vehicle and driving without an insurance card against Lonny L. Walsh, 26, of Wilkes-Barre, were sent to Luzerne County court af- ter a preliminary hearing August 3 before District Magistrate James Tupper. Related charges of theft by unlawful taking and misuse of an automotive registration card were dismissed, according to court records. The charges resulted from an incident investigated by Lehman Township patrolman Martin Maransky, in which he observed Walsh driving on Slocum Road with a license plate previously reported to police as being stolen. The car's certificate of title listed Walsh as the car's owner, but its owner's card didn't contain a li- cense plate number. According to police records, no license plate was issued to Walsh's vehicle. Walsh was also cited for driving with an expired license. Represented by attorney John Pike, Walsh is free on $300 bail. ALLEGED DRUNK DRIVER BACKS ACROSS HIGHWAY INTO CAR Harveys Lake resident Frank H. Leonard, 64, waived his right to a preliminaryhearing August 3 before District Magistrate James Tupper on misdemeanor charges of D.U.L (driving while under the influence) and a traffic citation for improperly backing up. According to court records, the charges resulted from an incident investigated by Harveys Lake patrolman Jeff Butler, in which Leonard backed his white Dodge from the parking lot of the Ameri- can Legion across Route 415 into the rear of a car operated by Julia Hosle, parked at Hoss's Garden Hut. A blood test indicated that Leonard's blood alcohol level was .382, nearly four times the legal limit of .10. Leonard is free on $300 bail. gospel hymns with the more con- temporary songs of faith.
