Hosey, a former star at College Misericordia, was one of those familiar faces who could always be seen on the court with either in a pick-up game or just shooting around. “I used to play whenever [ was able,” Hosey said. “I think this league is great because it allows everybody to play. I'd like to see more of the college players — it would make for better competi- tion.” Injuries have slowed Mike down a little the past two summers, but his team, Hosey’s — made up of mostly former Division III college players — is one of the league leaders. With rainouts and injuries being held to a minimum the league's biggest problem has been one they have no control over - the humidity. “We've had games where it seems like they're playing in slow i Lh lH GH ~ “You've got young guys playing, you've got old guys playing, it’s just a well run league.” Chuck Wilson Dallas rec basketball player motion,” Wolensky said. “It looked like the guys were running in Jell- o.” . Camp director was Bob Schuler, award-winning coach of the Bishop Hoban High School Lady Argents. The camp stressed shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, defending and set- ting screens, and is designed to help girls improve their skills in both individual and team situ- ations. Players received an evaluation report, camp certificate, free camp T-shirt, and free camp team photo. Players attended lectures by out- standing regional basketball au- thorities, college players, area high school coaches and assistants, PIAA officials, and college coaches. Awards were presented at the conclusion of the camp. Soccer (continued from page 9) but Moran doubles as field hockey coach at Dallas. “It would be my choice if I had to choose between hockey and soccer,” said Moran. “At this point, I can't even guess. It's too early to speculate and I really love coach- ing both sports.” The easiest solution might be for the PIAA to propose making girls soccer a spring only sport. Moran has asked that ques- tion before and although he can't seem to get a complete answer, the reasoning probably lies in the fact that in the western half of the state there is less participation in field hockey. That section of Pennsylvania has been playing girls'soccer longer, has more fields available for the sport and is re- ceiving the benefit of the doubt in the vote. “It's also played in the fall at the college level,” explained El- ston. “It just keeps growing and growing. This problem has been created because soccer has be- come so popular as a sport.” Faced with the decision of moving to the spring or not com- peting for a state championship, some Wyoming Valley coaches — Sultch named new super at Four Seasons Jonathan J. Many /@) a of the Lehman girls at the junior high level are aware of what is going on and are playing guessing games as to which sport they'd rather be playing in three or four years. Moran feels, since the voting is so close, that more discussion is needed.
